The whole house seemed to shake as Ryan tried to navigate his way through it in the dark, the boards covering the windows rattling loudly and reminding him of bad sound effects in old movies. They’d called it the storm of the decade on the news, an unusually violent weather system moving up the west coast and leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
Drew had invited everyone to stay the night at his place until it had passed, having the biggest house by far, and they’d all spent the afternoon preparing for the onslaught. Ryan hoped to God that it would pass soon.
He hadn’t been able to get to sleep, the noise outside sabotaging any attempt and bringing unpleasant memories to the surface, so he’d finally decided to seek out the only person who could always make him feel better. He stopped outside the right door and knocked softly before opening it and stepping just inside.
“Col?” he called softly, “You awake?”
There was a grumble from somewhere in the darkness. “I am now.”
Ryan immediately felt horribly selfish for waking him up, and turned to leave. “Sorry, go back to sleep.”
“No, it’s okay.” Colin’s voice sounded warm and reassuring, making Ryan instantly feel a little better. “What’s the matter Ry?”
Ryan sighed and shrugged, even though Colin couldn’t see the gesture. “I don’t know. Bad memories I guess.”
Now it was Colin’s turn to feel bad for not having foreseen this, knowing full well how Ryan had been affected by a particularly violent storm when he was young. “You wanna stay here tonight?”
“You don’t mind?” Ryan’s voice sounded almost child-like in its insecurity.
There was a rustling as Colin pulled the covers back. “Course not. Come on.”
Ryan smiled in relief and moved forwards to slide into bed next to Colin, feeling the warmth seep into his chilled body.
“No hogging the duvet though, okay?” Colin joked, moving over to make room.
Ryan grinned and settled down, his anxiety already starting to fade. He shuffled a little closer to Colin, and tentatively laid a hand on his chest for reassurance. His heart flipped when he felt Colin’s warm hand close around his and squeeze gently.
“Thank you Col,” he whispered.
Colin turned his head and kissed Ryan’s forehead affectionately. “Anytime.”
Maybe it was the immense gratitude which made him do it, or maybe it was the overwhelming feeling of belonging, but Ryan found himself raising his head to brush his lips against Colin’s lightly, as his heart thundered in his chest. He sensed Colin’s surprise and there was a split-second hesitation, which felt like a lifetime, before Colin’s lips moved softly against his, undeniably kissing him back.
It felt like they had been building up to this moment for years, words unspoken now conveyed through a tentative exploration of each other’s mouths. The storm was forgotten as Ryan cradled Colin’s face and moved closer, feeling more at peace than he had ever done before. This was what he’d been looking for all his life, not realizing that it had been right under his nose all along.
That night they made love for the first time, their cries of release almost completely swallowed by the storm raging outside. Almost. In the next room Greg lay awake and smiling, glad that his friends had finally discovered what everybody else had always known. The smile stayed on his face as he allowed his eyes to close and tightened his hold on Jeff, who was sleeping peacefully in his arms.

Come home ASAP. I have news.
Col x
Ryan stared at the text message, momentarily losing track of the conversation he was in the midst of having with Drew in the DCS green room. He looked up and realized that Drew must have asked him a question, judging by his expression, but he had no idea what it was.
“Sorry Drew, what did you say?”
Drew laughed and clapped him on the back. “Never mind. That wouldn’t happen to be from a certain Canadian we all know and love, would it?" He nodded to the phone in Ryan’s hand with a grin.
Ryan couldn’t help smiling. “Yes, it would. Do you need me for anything else today? He needs me to come home.”
“Wow, Ryan Stiles under the thumb. I never thought I’d see the day,” Drew smirked, taking a mouthful of water.
“Hey, I don’t get paid enough to take this sort of abuse,” Ryan replied indignantly, a smile threatening to break through his outraged expression. “Seriously though, can I go? Col says he has news.”
Drew’s eyebrows shot up. “Do you think it’s….?”
“I don’t know,” Ryan shook his head, “maybe.” His stomach filled with butterflies at the thought.
“Well go find out,” Drew said firmly, pushing him towards the door. “You can catch up on any shots tomorrow.”
Ryan turned in the doorway, grinning at his friend. “Thanks buddy.”
Drew waved his thanks away with a smile and gave him a quick hug. “Give my best to your husband, okay? Good luck.”
Ryan blew out a deep breath and smiled briefly before heading towards the parking lot.
He found it very difficult to concentrate on the drive home, his mind going over all the possibilities. It was only when he very nearly crashed into the car in front that he snapped out of his daze and pulled himself together. He wasn’t going to be any good to anyone if he was in the hospital.
“Col?” he called, as soon as he was through the door. The house was quiet, but Ryan knew exactly where his husband would be and ran upstairs. He reached the small room adjacent to the master bedroom and pushed open the door.
Colin was standing silently with his back to him, staring out of the window. Although Ryan made no noise, Colin sensed his presence and turned, his expression unreadable.
“Well?” Ryan asked, his throat tight with nerves.
A beautiful smile suddenly broke across Colin’s face. “They said yes Ry.”
Ryan reached him in three strides and pulled him into a fierce hug, his heart threatening to explode with happiness. “We did it,” he whispered, then his lips found Colin’s in the tenderest of kisses.
After months of research, preparations, interviews, and hopes raised and dashed, they had both finally got what they’d always wanted. They were going to have a child.

Title - A Fine Line

There’s a fine line between love and hate; so fine, in fact, that many people often mistake one for the other. That’s how it was with us. We’d trade insults, a sarcastic comment countered with a witty retort, back and forth, sometimes getting so caught up in our good-natured warfare that we forgot about everything else, much to Dan’s obvious annoyance.
The show received many letters about our so-called hostility which amused us no end. You see, to us, it was simply flirtation, maybe even foreplay. There was no malice in those exchanges; merely the promise of what was to come later on when there was no-one else around.
I sat down on the large couch in my dressing room with a scotch, lifting my legs to rest them on the table in front of me. It had been another long day in a long week and I allowed myself to sink back into the leather, my eyes closing of their own accord and my glass tilting alarmingly.
I didn’t hear the door open. The first I knew of his presence was the feel of warm, slightly dry, lips on mine.
“That had better be who I think it is,” I murmured as the kiss ended, my eyes staying firmly shut.
“That depends on who you think it is.”
The familiar, distinct, voice washed over me and made me smile. I felt him pluck the glass from my hands, no doubt intending to pilfer its contents.
“Hmm….Ryan?” I guessed with a smirk.
There was a snort of amusement nearby, then I felt a hand trace a path down my chest and rest comfortably on my crotch. “Ryan could never do what I do to you, honey.”
I raised an eyebrow and opened my eyes to meet the amused gaze of my lover. “How would you know?”
He let out a bark of laughter, his hand beginning a gentle massage which completely threw my concentration. “Relax. Ryan’s a good buddy but he’s definitely not my type; too skinny by far.”
“Well, that only leaves the majority of Americans then,” I smirked, trying to retain my composure as his hand movement created a delicious friction.
He grinned and shook his head. “Nah, I prefer my men witty and balding.”
“Colin had better watch out then.”
“Colin’s taken.”
“So am I.”
“Really? By whom?”
“An infuriating but loveable American teddy boy lookalike.”
“Let’s concentrate on the loveable part.”
“Do you ever know when to shut up?” I asked, pulling him forward by his tie until our chests were touching.
“Make me,” he challenged.
I was only too happy to oblige.
