Part Four
She had sat through the taping, content just to be near him, and knew he was thinking about her as much as she was about him. She had seen him scan the audience several times, no doubt looking for her. When their eyes had eventually met, she had smiled at him and felt the strong connection of love that she knew they shared, before his gaze moved on.
She had loved watching him perform, knowing he was doing it for her. The other performers were nothing compared to him....he was perfection. She could see that being apart from her was hurting him though and she longed to make it better, but they had to be patient. There were loose ends to tie up first, then they could be together forever.
Towards the end of the taping she had seen Colin trying to get his attention and daring to touch what was hers, fury running through her veins, but he would learn soon enough. She would have to leave him a little note for him....
xxxxx
Ryan looked down at the note in Colin's hands and felt white-hot anger fill his body. This woman was staking a claim on him like a prized possession, clearly telling Colin to back off. What fucking right did she have? She obviously knew nothing about him if she thought he could have any feelings for her except hatred, especially after this. His heart was already taken and he wasn't giving Colin up for anything.
Colin raised his eyebrows at the two scribbled words and glanced at Ryan before wordlessly handing the note to the Drew who passed it around.
"Well, that's told you Col," Greg snorted as he handed the note back. "Maybe you'd better pack your bags now."
Colin rolled his eyes as he sat down with Ryan who took his hand and sent a deadly look Greg's way.
Drew shook his head. "This isn't a joke Greg," he said sternly. "We don't know what lengths she'll go to for Ryan's undivided attention."
"We should call detective Roberts," Wayne said seriously as Greg looked sheepish, "he needs to know we've got another note, even if it doesn't say much."
"I'll do that," Drew replied as Dan appeared in the doorway looking flustered.
"Asshole alert," Greg muttered to Wayne who had to hide a grin.
"Drew, Ryan, what are you doing in here?" he said irritably. "You're supposed to be in a meeting now."
"Oh crap, I forgot about that," Drew exclaimed, slapping a hand to his forehead and looking at Ryan, "I promised we'd go to a meeting with the show's exec's tonight."
Ryan shook his head, his temper flaring instantly. "No way Drew," he said loudly. "After today? You've gotta be kidding me."
"You have to Ryan," Dan stated from the doorway, "you're an executive producer."
"The hell I do Dan," Ryan replied hotly. "If you think for one minute that I'm leaving Colin's side after everything that's happened today then you're a bigger fucking idiot than I thought."
"Ry," Colin warned as Dan bristled and said, "I don't know what you're so worked up about, it's only a few letters. It's a lot of fuss over nothing if you ask me."
Greg and Wayne stared incredulously at Dan and Colin had to physically restrain Ryan from getting up and punching him as Drew moved to stand between them.
"You're not helping matters Dan," he said angrily. "Go start the meeting and we'll catch up."
Dan looked set to argue but the look Drew sent his way made him think twice. He muttered something and left as Drew turned to face Ryan who had stopped struggling but still looked murderous.
"Can you believe that guy?" Greg asked, shaking his head.
"Look Ryan, I understand it's been a tough day but we have to go to this meeting," Drew said calmly. "It won't take more than an hour tops."
Ryan opened his mouth to protest but Colin cut in. "I'll be fine Ry," he said gently, squeezing Ryan's hand as Ryan looked at him anxiously. "You can't be with me twenty-four hours a day. I promise I'll go straight home."
"No," Ryan replied firmly, "You're not going home by yourself."
"Hey, I'll go with Colin," Greg interjected and they both looked over at him. "It'll give us a chance to catch up properly."
"There you go," Colin said to Ryan with a smile, gesturing at Greg, "Greg will fight off any crazy fans until you get back. Now go to your meeting."
Ryan still looked dubious as they got up and Colin ushered him to the door with Drew.
"Do you promise to call me straight away if anything happens?" Ryan asked as he reached the doorway and turned to face Colin.
Colin smiled. "Cross my heart, hope to..."
Ryan quickly put a finger to Colin's lips to cut him off. "Don't say it," he whispered fearfully before tenderly cradling Colin's face and kissing him gently as Drew, Greg, and Wayne suddenly found very interesting spots on the walls to look at.
Ryan pulled back slowly and took a moment to gaze into the warm brown eyes that he loved so much, seeing the love reflected there. He looked over Colin's shoulder and called, "Keep him safe," to Greg who nodded. He gave Colin one last peck on the lips and whispered, "Love you," before heading off with Drew.
"Come on Col," Greg said getting to his feet, "let's get you home. I hear beer calling."
The drive home proved uneventful. Greg thought the car behind was following them a little too closely but put it down to paranoia. Everyone looked suspicious to him now, even an old lady who crossed the road in front of them laden with shopping.
They reached the house safely and Greg allowed himself to relax as they grabbed a couple of beers and sat down on the sofa. Colin made it clear that he didn't want to talk about Rachel so they spent the next hour chatting comfortably about other things and reminiscing.
When Ryan turned his key in the lock and opened the door some time later, he was relieved to hear laughter coming from the front room and let out the breath he'd unconsciously been holding. He'd found it increasingly hard to concentrate in the meeting, his mind conjuring pictures of someone hurting Colin, and Drew had been forced to elbow him several times to get his attention. In the end he hadn't contributed much to it at all and had rushed out the moment it had finished. He knew he could trust Greg but he couldn't relax until he was at Colin's side.
He entered the room to see Greg laughing at Colin who playfully pushed him as he chuckled, eyes sparkling. His eyes lit up when he saw Ryan coming towards him.
"Hey, you're back," Colin grinned as Ryan leant down to kiss him. "Good meeting?"
"Waste of time," Ryan replied, nodding at Greg in greeting as he plucked the beer out of Colin's hand and took a swig.
"Well, I'd better be getting back," Greg said as he stood up and stretched.
Colin got up and hugged him. "Thanks for staying with me Greg, it was nice to forget for a while."
"Anytime Col," Greg grinned as he returned the hug.
"Do you need us to take you back?" Colin asked.
"That's ok, I'll just grab a cab," Greg replied as he put on his jacket. "I'll see you at tomorrow's taping."
Ryan walked him to the door. "No problems?" he asked softly so Colin couldn't hear.
Greg shook his head. "No, it was fine. Although...."
"What?" Ryan asked anxiously.
Greg looked at him carefully. "I may have been imagining it but I think someone was following us here. I couldn't see their face."
Ryan frowned as he opened the door. "Well, detective Roberts said that we'd be under surveillance didn't he? So it was probably a police officer."
Greg looked relieved. "Yeah, it must have been. Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow." He paused as he stepped outside and turned around. "Any problems, call me ok? You're not the only one who loves him."
"I will," Ryan assured him with a smile. "Thanks Greg."
Colin was sitting and staring off into space when he returned. He jumped when Ryan sat next to him and smiled sheepishly at him. Ryan lifted his arm invitingly and Colin snuggled into his side, sighing contentedly as he laid his head on Ryan's chest. They were happy to just sit there in each other's arms for a while, both silently wondering who Rachel was and what she planned to do next.
Ryan squeezed Colin gently and Colin raised his head to look into his eyes questioningly. Ryan looked at him and felt a stab of pain go through his heart at the thought of someone taking Colin away from him. He closed the gap between them and sealed his lips over Colin's, the need to touch and feel him too great. The kiss started off slow and tender but gradually increased in intensity, soothing away the day's fears and worries.
Ryan pulled back, his heart beating rapidly as he looked into Colin's eyes. "I need you," he whispered, breathing heavily.
Colin smiled and gave him a peck on the lips. "Then take me," he replied softly.
Ryan growled and grabbed Colin's hand, pulling him out of the room and upstairs.
To be continued...
