Drew and Brad walked into the hotel room after the first day of their honeymoon. They walked into the room and Drew kissed Brad deeply. Brad grinned. “Eager, are we?”
“I just can’t get enough of you.” Drew breathed against his mouth.
“That’s good, because you’ll be getting me for the rest of our lives.” Brad looked to him, and Drew smiled.
“The rest of my life is something I’m looking forward to.”
They were inches away from a kiss when the phone rang. “I’ll get it.” Drew said.
He picked up the receiver. “Hello?”
“Drew?”
“Oh, hey, Ryan, what’s up?”
“Turn on channel four.” Ryan’s voice sounded odd.
“What’s going on?”
“Just do it.”
Drew grabbed the remote, and flipped to channel four. Brad’s jaw dropped. It was a bunch of people protesting W.B.’s embracing of gay celebrities. Drew sighed. “How long has this been going on?”
“For about three hours. Makes me sick. Dan’s having a freakin’ coronary. Just thought you might like to know.”
Drew turned off the TV. “Thanks, Ryan. How are things with you guys?”
“Not bad. How many times have you and Brad fucked?”
Drew chuckled. “It was about to turn into six, but who’s counting?”
“Okay, I’ll let you get back to work. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Drew hung up. Brad looked to him, expecting a tantrum. Drew looked to him. “Oh, well.”
Brad’s eyebrows raised. “You’re taking this better than I would.”
Drew got up and kissed Brad. “If that’s the price I have to pay for being with you, then so be it.”
They fell gently onto the bed, beginning to feel their passion stirring again…
Finally, it was time to go back. Ryan was a wreck on the plane, and made his usual vow that he would never set foot on a plane again. At the
Drew and Brad met the guys in an airport café. Brad sat down and slammed his fist onto the table. “Damn border guard…”
“What happened?” Jeff sighed.
“What we expected.” Drew leaned his head onto his hand. “Our license was null and void the second we stepped in.”
Ryan shook his head. “People have a fucked up view of marriage. Britney Spears’ 55-hour just for fun marriage was perfectly legal, but you guys have to go through all sorts of red tape.”
Drew got up. “I wanna get my mind off things. Let’s go grab a bite to eat.”
They grabbed their luggage and were making their way out when they felt the stares. They pressed on, they didn’t want to deal with this just yet. Walking outside, they found more protesters.
“How the fuck did they know where we were?” Drew asked in disbelief.
Brad shook his head and led Drew away. The others followed him. A man stared yelling at them. “GO HOME, FAGGOTS!”
“We are home!” Brad yelled back. “Go back to Hell where you belong!”
He turned again, and didn’t make it two steps when he heard Drew yell in pain. Turning around, Brad saw red…literally.
Drew was on his knees, clutching at his face. Pulling back his hand, he saw the blood. Raising his face, he saw that something had broken Drew’s nose and glasses.
Ryan turned to the crowd, absolute fire in his eyes. “HOW DARE YOU?!” He ran toward the crowd and was restrained by Colin. “Ryan, c’mon, you don’t wanna get in trouble-“
“They threw a rock at Drew’s FACE and you’re saying leave it alone?!”
The police came in and dragged the man away, and dispersed the group. Walking away with looks of smug contempt, Brad knelt by Drew and tried to hold him.
“Oh, God, baby…”
Drew raised the hand to his face again, not to wipe away blood, this time to hide tears. Greg pulled out a handkerchief and handed it to him, which he accepted. “Let’s get you to a hospital.” He said quietly.
They hailed a cab and did just that.
Drew had a bandage over his nose and a little bruising on his face. Brad took him home and felt immense guilt. If he hadn’t yelled at that man, would he still be okay?
“Thanks for sticking up for me.” Drew said softly.
“I’m sorry, it was all my fault-“
Drew raised a finger to his lips. “No. Don’t ever think that. It wasn’t your fault.”
Brad looked at him and felt his stomach tighten at Drew’s hurt look. “How can people do that?”
“Because they can.”
Drew tried to walk away but started to shake. Brad caught him as he collapsed into full-on tears. He comforted him as best he could, and when Drew fell asleep in his arms, he didn’t try to move him. He got them comfortable and they slept on the floor.
Drew went through a deep depression for the next day. Brad tried to be supportive, but it broke his heart to see it.
Colin and Ryan came up. “Hey, Drew. Good news.”
“Oh?” He didn’t get up, his voice was empty.
“The Whosers have come to our rescue.”
That made Drew sit up. Ryan turned on the TV. There were a bunch of people, mostly girls, some dressed up as them.
A girl dressed as Greg started to speak. “We’re here to defend Drew and Brad, because it makes absolutely no sense that the public loved them before and is turning on them because they’re gay! Besides, if they love each other, it’s their right to be together!”
Brad grinned. The girl spoke again. “We’ve been outside the studio for four hours, singing hoedowns and playing scenes from a hat. Drew and Brad, if you’re watching, hang in there! We all love you!”
Ryan shut off the TV. “See? The fans have spoken.”
Drew smiled for the first time in a while. “You’re right, you guys. I really have been…OH!”
He immediately clutched his stomach. Brad put an arm around him in panic. “Sorry. I just realized how much I haven’t been eating.”
Colin laughed. “Alright, c’mon, we’ll take you out.”
Drew was his old joyful self again, eating and laughing and cracking jokes. Everyone was happy to see it. Drew and Brad went back to the hotel and collapsed onto the bed. Brad rubbed his face in Drew’s neck. “Up for a little relaxation plan?”
“Oh? What does this plan entail?”
“Rum and Cokes, a hot bath, and a little lovin’?”
“I like that plan.” Drew sat up. “I’ll get the stuff for the drinks and run the bath, why don’t you go get some ice?”
Brad kissed him deeply. “I knew there was a reason I married you.” He got up and grabbed the ice bucket, heading out the door.
Drew pulled down two highballs, and got a bottle of rum and two Cokes from the mini-bar. He turned on the water in the tub and hummed gently to himself as he mixed the drinks. Brad slipped the ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door and shut the door to the bathroom as Drew handed him his drink.
“To us.” They toasted and drank.
Brad stripped his clothes, then did the same for Drew. He eased into the water and hissed. “Too hot?” Drew asked.
“A little, but I can adjust.” He sighed. “Come on in.”
Drew felt the tingle on his skin as he slid in and let himself rest against Brad. “You okay?”
“Much.” Brad wrapped his arms around Drew from behind. He started to rub his chest with a warm washcloth. “That feels good.” Drew moaned softly.
Brad leaned in to whisper in his ear. “I love you.”
“I love you, too. Why now?” Drew looked back at him.
“You don’t need a reason to say it.”
Drew kissed him softly and reached for his left hand, the bands made a clink noise as they came together. He rested his head on his shoulder and placed the hand over his heart. “Thank you.”
Brad knew he didn’t say thank you for one reason alone. “Thank you.” They rested until the water got cold and went back to the bedroom to generate more heat.
