Yes, it's time for...

That's right! We're doing the Whose-A-Thon again, which means a summer of plot bunnies, new stories and maybe even a little art—FOR YOU AND BY YOU—the wonderful members of our community!
Let’s heat up those summer nights with some naughty smut or cool off with a little dip in some romantic fluff. It’s up to you! Curious? Come on in and take a look!
Whose Thon is it Anyway? is a writing and drawing challenge. Prompts are offered up by the members of the community, where then other members may choose these prompts to write/illustrate for the pleasure of the prompter and all who wish to see.
Note: This year we're going back to self-posting, which is simpler for all concerned.
So, the challenge will work as follows.
SUMBITTING PROMPTS: Starting today, in a post following this one, people will be urged to submit prompts. Prompts will be taken for TWO WEEKS, ending on Monday, July 7th. Prompts will be given in secrecy, posted as comments which will be screened or sent in through PM to me -
rycolfan.
You may submit as many prompts as you like. They can be as vague or specific as you like, mentioning specific pairings or leaving them out as you see fit, simply requesting nothing but a pairing or even a mood for a fic. It’s totally up to you and what you’d like to see. However, please attempt to keep prompts brief, between one and three sentences. And in my experience, the more specific prompts are more fun. ^_^
CLAIMING PROMPTS: On Wednesday, July 9th, a master list of prompts will be revealed for all to peruse. Starting that same day, and continuing for TWO MONTHS until Wednesday, September 3rd, you are free to claim a prompt by leaving a comment in the prompt claiming post. These comments will be screened. You may claim as many prompts as you like, HOWEVER, only one prompt may be claimed at a time. Your first prompt must be completed before claiming a second, the second must be completed before claiming a third, etc.
Each prompt may be claimed a total of FOUR times. Twice by authors and twice by artists, at which point the prompt will become unavailable. When claiming a prompt, please specify if you are claiming as an author or an artist.
WRITING PROMPTS: After you claim a prompt, the moderator will reply to you, verifying your claim. TO THIS EXTENT, YOU MUST HAVE A WAY FOR ME TO CONTACT YOU, PREFERABLY THROUGH PM. So make sure your privacy settings are such where you can receive PMs from people not on your f-list.
At this point you will also get a due date, generally TWO WEEKS from the point when your claim is verified.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE THE FULL TWO WEEKS TO WRITE/DRAW THE PROMPT. As soon as you have completed your prompt, either send it me (
rycolfan) via PM or email it to wlfanfictionmod@gmail.com, with the full text/image of your prompt so I can verify it’s completion. You will then get a posting date, simply to help stagger the posts so that we don’t flood the comm. :)
You may post in
wl_fanfiction on your posting date. You may post elsewhere after that.
If you’ve finished your prompt, go and claim another one! You may claim another prompt as soon as your first is verified complete. YOU DO NOT NEED TO POST BEFORE CLAIMING A SECOND PROMPT, JUST HAVE IT VERIFIED COMPLETE. If you’re finished claiming posts, then you’re done! Sit back, enjoy the comments on your post, and have fun viewing everyone else’s offerings!

Now let me attempt to answer a few questions before they pop up:
Q: Why are prompt submissions anonymous?
A: Two reasons. One, just to have the fun of a surprise reveal when the time comes, and two, just in case someone wants to submit a prompt they might otherwise be too embarrassed to request in public. The mods will be the only ones who see it, and don’t worry, we don’t judge. ^_^
Q: If someone writes one of my prompts, can I take credit for it, or does it have to stay anonymous?
A: You can certainly take credit for it! Once the master list of prompts is revealed, and especially if someone happens to write one of your prompts, go ahead and take all the credit you like!
Q: Why are the prompt claims anonymous if the author/artist is just going to post for themselves anyway?
A: Again, two reasons. As always, one, just for the fun of the reveal! Even if you can see your prompt has been taken, what fun it is to wait and ponder who might be the author or artist that brings it to life. And two, just in case something does come up, and someone cannot complete their prompt, I don’t want any pressure or guilt to befall that person that public knowledge of an incomplete prompt might cause.
Q: Because of the anonymous nature of the challenge, can we use betas? What if my beta wrote the prompt I chose without my knowing? Wouldn't that ruin the element of surprise?
A: You can certainly use a beta. And it's okay if you end up writing a prompt your beta has submitted—the element of surprise in this challenge is for fun, but it's in no way a necessity.
Q: If I submit a prompt, do I HAVE to write one in return? OR Do I need to have submitted a prompt in order to write?
A: Nope! They are completely independent of one another.
Q: Is the Thon limited to specific pairings?
A: Nope! Unless the prompt asks for a specific pairing, feel free to write/draw about anyone you like.
Q: What if a prompt lists a plot I want to write/draw, but lists a pairing I do not want to write/draw?
A: Since this is not a strict fic exchange, you do not have to follow the prompts to a T. You are free to swap out details as you see fit, including pairings, though I do encourage you to at least make an attempt to follow the prompt as closely as possible.
Q: What if I don't like any of the prompts?
A: As stated above, you are free to tweak them to your liking. If, however, even tweaking brings about nothing that suits your fancy, then you'll also have the option to peruse last year's list of prompts and choose from among them.
Q: So can I write/draw my own prompt?
A: Sure, why not? ^_^
Q: Instead of submitting a simple sentence/word as a prompt, can I make a prompt out of a photo or a picture?
A: Yes! While I prefer the majority of prompts to be text requests, images, music and whatever else inspires you is eligible to be used as a prompt.
Q: Are there any specifications I need to follow when writing a prompt, such as length or rating?
A: Again, no, not exactly. In regards to length (or detail, when it comes to art), I’d like to see an effort made. Aka, it would be nice to see stories no shorter than 500 words or art that is colored or at least finely detailed/icons that are much more than a simple cropped picture/etc., to show that both time and effort have gone into fulfilling the prompt, however, as of this moment, there are no specific limitations set as a rule. In regards to rating, or how adult the work should be, that is completely up to you and should be done according to your comfort zone and in accordance with the prompt, itself.
Q: Can I choose the same prompt twice?
A: Yes. Whether you want to both write AND draw a prompt or write it twice or draw it twice, as long as the prompt is still available, you may do so. HOWEVER, you may only claim one at a time, as if they were two separate prompts, and one must be complete before choosing the other.
Q: Define “art.“ Does that include photo manips, banners and the like?
A: Sure, why not? If you want to use "art" to mean icons, headers, manips, even vids or things beyond what I can imagine here, then go for it! If doing something like icons, make sure to post the rules about other people using your work along with them. ^_^
Q: When can we expect the stories/drawings to start popping up?
A: It could be any time after prompt claiming begins but probably around mid to late July.
Q: Am I allowed to post my finished story/art in another community or on Tumblr? Or will it only be posted in
wl_fanfiction?
A: You may post you story wherever you like, HOWEVER, please only do so after the end of the Thon. As a general rule, please refrain from posting elsewhere until AFTER September 3rd.
Q: When is the Thon officially over?
A: The Thon is officially over as soon as the last claimed prompt has been completed and posted. There will be a moderator post saying as much.
And last, but certainly not least…
Q: What if I need an extension or find that I cannot complete my prompt?
A: That’s okay! Again, this is NOT a fic exchange. You are under no obligation to complete your prompt. All I ask is that you let me know! That way I can give you the time you need to complete your prompt or I can put your prompt back on the market for someone else to claim.
Any further questions or comments, feel free to ask them in the comments of this post. Otherwise, head on over to the prompt submissions post! :)
