Title: Instinct
Pairing: Colin/Ryan
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1,000
Summary: I can hear a screaming crowd, laughter and howls as they realise what we’re doing. I have a vague idea that my mind is screaming too, but for entirely different reasons. ~ My completely original game of ‘Award Show’.
Author’s Notes: Anyone remember this? A little fic I wrote from days gone by, which I thought I might post here. :D Enjoy!

“Award Show, this is for all four of you. Greg and Wayne are gonna be hosts of a glamorous award show and Ryan and Colin are nominees in the audience…”

I’ve heard this explanation so many times, yet we don’t play this game that often. Ryan and I smile and exchange knowing glances, knowing yet nervous, as we rise from our chairs and routinely make our way to the two empty seats in the audience. The woman I’m sitting next to is grinning like a chimp, and I smile back slightly. Being adored by people is good fun, really.

“The twist to this award ceremony though is that this is the award for Best Newlywed Couple.” Drew’s spluttering around his words in a vain effort not to burst out laughing. Beside me, I feel and hear Ryan chuckling slightly and I can make out Greg and Wayne silently giggling to each other. All the while, I’m thinking about how to play a young newlywed. With Ryan. I’ll probably end up being the woman as usual but oh well, such is life.

I think so much into this that I don’t notice that the game is already underway with Greg and Wayne introducing the ceremony, earning laughs and general approval from the audience. I feel Ryan’s leg bouncing against mine and I’m wondering what it is that’s made him so nervous.

I’m still thinking up ideas on how to play a young wife but when the “hosts” reach their second “nominees” in the audience, Ryan leans close to me and whispers into my ear, “Sorry about this.”

“And finally, our last nominees…” I don’t get the chance to listen to whatever names Greg and Wayne give us because Ryan leans over me and kisses me square on the lips.

I can hear a screaming crowd, laughter and howls as they realise what we’re doing. I have a vague idea that my mind is screaming too, but for entirely different reasons. Ryan’s kissed me on stage before, so why am I suddenly so giddy? I guess this kiss just feels… good.

I can’t believe I just thought that.

Partly for visual effect and partly because I want to, I sift my hand through the thick blond hair on the back of his head, deepening the kiss against my better judgement. He freezes slightly against my lips but relaxes when I lightly scratch at his scalp, soothing him.

Was that his tongue? Did he just…? Oh, sweet Canada, he did. I don’t know if I should respond, I mean, this doesn’t feel like a stage kiss anymore. Now, it feels more like a kiss kiss, and Ryan is a good kisser...

Oh, screw it. I’ll open my mouth, just to see what it’s like…

Suddenly, the warm tingle disappears and Ryan’s pushing himself away from me. Greg and Wayne must’ve announced us as the winners, because the triumphant music from Laura’s piano is playing and Ryan’s grinning and getting to his feet. My brain forms a coherent thought long enough for me to do the same, following him down to the stage.

Once we reach the others, Greg and Wayne are looking at us strangely, even as we reach out to shake their hands, they continue to stare as if we’re both mutants with three heads each. Ryan turns to me at the podium, smiling and waiting for me to start. I don’t get it; barely thirty seconds ago he was completely kissing my brains out, but now he’s acting as though he’s done nothing at all out of the ordinary.

“Well…” I start and pause for a while, quite literally lost for words. Think Colin, think. “I wasn’t quite expecting that.”

At least that earned a laugh. Ryan’s grinning and jumping beside me, seemingly pleased with how he’s shaken me up. “Oh, darling! It’s fantastic!” he squeals, miming holding the award in his hands. Huh, looks like he’s chosen to play the woman this time. Makes me wonder why.

So then, running on Ryan’s example, I’m ultimately led to the conclusion this particular married couple are unable to keep their hands off each other. Well, he started it. Plucking up courage from somewhere, I lay a firm slap right onto his rear. He yelps in surprise and stares at me, the crowd falling into hysterics around us at hearing the sharp snap of hand on cheek.

“Indeed it is,” I say neutrally, as if I hadn’t slapped him at all. We quickly parade through our so-called acceptance speech pretty normally, earning our laughs and gaining the credit, so to speak. And as we’re nearing the end of the skit, whilst I’m busy wrapped up in the game, Ryan’s arms suddenly encircle my waist from behind and he breathes heavily in my ear.

“Let’s get outta here, baby,” he husks, low and alluring, but loud enough for all to hear. That gains an appreciative roar of laughter and so help me I think he arouses me. I had no idea he could be this… sexy.

I can’t believe I just thought that, either.

Drew’s buzzer has never sounded so welcome and all character that we withheld drops. On the journey back to our seats, Ryan and I casually pat each other on the back and laugh in the face of it all being an act.

“That’s what came to mind first, huh?”

Ryan shrugs, still smiling. “Yeah,” he says unwavering, quiet enough so the microphone doesn’t pick it up. “Guess I just went by instinct.”

I shake my head, looking out to the cheering crowd and sighing. “Thank God for your instinct.”

“Wow, you guys went all out on that one, huh? Man, we’d better turn down the heat in here.” Drew smiles from his desk as the crowd settle down. I laugh right back at him, hearing Ryan chuckle also, mirroring my feelings. Drew’s right about us going all out, I suppose.

But truthfully, with Ryan and I, when do we not?

How did I not leave a comment for this first time round? Anyway, that was cute and put a big smile on my face.

The "Oh, sweet Canada," line was priceless and oh so very Colin. ^_^
