[identity profile] clayangel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] wl_fanfiction

Stuck at home this Halloween handing out candy to the kiddies? Missing the carefree days when you, too, were free to pillage your neighbors and indulge your sweet tooth with the aid of your trusty plastic pumpkin?

Well reminisce no more! Because [livejournal.com profile] wl_fanfiction is bringing back trick or treating with a twist! How would you like to go shopping from door to door, not for candy, but for fic, art and other fandom goodies galore! Curious? Take a peek inside...

Let's celebrate this holiday by sharing with our fellow fans the fruits of our labor. I'm not just talking fiction here, but art, graphics, whatever you can come up with! I want to take you guys from door to virtual door filling up your bag this Halloween! What will you get out of this? Fandom offerings from the authors and artists of the community! How?

Here's how it would work:
1. Email me (Clay) at clayangel@comcast.net to sign up. When you sign up, all you have to tell me is:
A) Your LJ name
B) WHAT type of offering you'd be willing to make (aka fiction, art, manips, icons, vids, headers/banners, etc. -- only choose ONE)
C) HOW MANY you'd be willing to make. (After seeing the trend of the majority of participants, I think this should be limited to 5 crafts (or 5 "sets" of crafts; either way, giving out things to 5 different people.)

Example: Hey, this is clayangel! I'm willing to make 5 pieces of art. ^_^
or
Hi, Sungreen here! I can write three stories. Thanks!

2. Sign ups end on Thursday, October 14th

3. On the 15th, I will post our crafted "neighborhood," HOWEVER, this year we've decided to go blind.

In the spirit of Halloween, and just to up the surprise factor a little, for trick or treating this year, we were thinking of keeping the houses blind, aka, the houses will have numbers rather than names attached to them, and they will not advertise the type of treat they are offering. You can choose which houses to visit, but you won't find out who lives there until you receive your treats on Halloween.

Some houses will have art, some will have graphics (or whatever else people choose to do) and some (most, probably) will have fiction, so you may receive any or all of these things, but you have no guarantee what type of treats you will receive.

4. As soon as the neighborhood is posted until all houses have been taken, You CHOOSE which houses you would like to visit. YOU CAN ONLY VISIT AS MANY HOUSES AS OFFERINGS YOU ARE WILLING TO GIVE. Therefore, if, say, you are willing to write three stories, then you may ask for things from three different houses. Make your choices and comment with the house numbers in that post.

You will know which house is yours. I will email you with your house number the morning that the neighborhood is posted. Please do not share your house number with other people.

4. After all choices have been made, I will email all participants with a reminder of who they will be crafting for, so that you may tailor your crafts for those people if you like. However, do NOT tell people for whom you are crafting, as we'd like an element of surprise come Halloween.

5. On October 29th, all crafts are due, emailed to me as per usual.

6. On October 31st, I will pass out the treat bags for everyone to enjoy!

Now, this may seem complicated, but it's really not. What it comes down to is that you sign up, choose which houses you'd like to visit and then write/draw/etc. for who chose you. Three easy steps!

As for the work load, let's think about trick or treat bags. Sure we all love getting full sized candy bars, but most people give out the fun size, and that's all I expect of you. Endeavors should be simple enough that you're not wearing yourself thin making multiples

For example:
  • Stories should be 300-500 words.
  • Vids would be shorted to 30 seconds or a minute.
  • Art would be sketches rather than full blown colored pictures with backgrounds.
  • On the reverse side, if you're making an icon, for example, I expect there to be more work put into it than a simple crop and resize.
  • And any other offered gifts should be of a comparable size.

  • Remember in the end that we're doing this for each other, our friends, and we're really just trying to make someone smile. ^_^

Again this year, I'd like to apologize for any snafus we run into. This is only our second year running this event. It went pretty well last year, but we're making a couple changes, and we can only hope for the best. ^_^ SIGN UP AND HAVE FUN!!
