Changeling
Chapter 8 /11
by blindlyluv
Summary:  Two months later, a conversation, giggles and a swim.

Two Months Later

The two men woke to Lily sitting at the foot of the bed all wide awake and joy emanating from her. As they became more fully aware both sat up and smiled at her. Her radiant smile filled their hearts with so much love for her that the room was encompassed in a sparkling glow.. " Good morning precious girl... Come give your daddies a hug if you will." Before the words were even sounded, there she was, embracing each of them and peppering their faces with sweet kisses.

She sat, placing herself in the midst of both of their laps and tilted her head back, peering at them with a mixture of pride and caution. " Daddy Col" she said, taking his hand and kissing it, then "Daddy Ry", and kissed Ryan's hand. Her voice was clear as crystal. Although these were her first spoken words, they were learning not to be shocked by her abilities any more. "I love you so much" she clearly articulated, then informed them they would have a visitor that day and they must prepare.

Ryan, a look of gravest concern said, "not that that thing again...?" Lily lowered her eyes and a sigh escaped her. "No, the mother creature will not return to this place Yet a battle with one of hers is approaching." The three conversed at length, Ryan and Colin both noting that she had grown, not just in abilities, but in stature and strength as well as confidence. They had come to understand that the loathsome being which had invaded and profaned their home had come upon her much as had they, and claimed her and attempted to devour her in a futile attempt to gain what Lily owned and would be. (What that might be, they were uncertain as yet.) A great battle of universal proportions had ensued and Lily had been terribly handled and injured, but her defenders has whisked her to this sanctuary, where Ryan and Colin had, all unknowing been waiting for her, as they had forged an unbreakable bond of love, family and protection between the two of them, Lily's arrival had completed this bond, forming a triangle which held an actual beating heart at it center.... A heart that was the life of their family.

The guys refrained from asking who would be their visitor, trusting that when the time was right, Lily would let them know. Instead, they inquired what preparations needed to be made.... what they could do. "Start with swim, then food, then work!?!" Her face shone up at them, then "Race you" as she had heard them challenge each other frequently and she took off in a gallop of giggles with her laughing and totally enchanted fathers not too far behind.

Ahhh so she can talk then...Well the plot seems to be thickening nicely. I like how Lily seems so playful with them.

I was doing a little skimming while I was tagging this, and this seems like a really intriguing story. I need to go back and read it more fully when I have time. ^_^ Lily reminds me a little of the child in Lynn Flewelling's last book. I was wondering if you were a fan?

Well, the latest in her Nightrunner series is about a gay couple who come into posession of a creepy child with powers, so it just reminded me of that a little. ^_^ Really good books if you like gay fantasy.

Coming back now that I've read up since the beginning. ^_^ I really like this story. I love the plot and the descriptions and the details. If I had one complaint, it would be that I wish it was more fleshed out, you know? I feel like it's lacking in transitions from one scene to the next, and I think that's especially true of this chapter, where it's just suddenly two months later. I think a paragraph or two describing the interim events, a quick run down of Lily changing and growing, would have really done wonders. :)

Well, I did find at least one chapter that hadn't been tagged (chapter 9) so I went and did that while I was reading (I didn't comment on every chapter, closer to every other only because I'm trying to read through a year's worth of fiction in two weeks and I have to pick and choose my comments, you know?). If you find anything that hadn't been tagged, though, let me know. :) I'm just about to start on Changeling of Darkness (whose tag I need to fix anyway) now.
