A Greg/Wayne ficcie, inspired by the ever-famous "Africa's a country" Drew-bit, and Greg and Wayne's reaction to that.

Greg's a bit of a loose cannon, a little of an emotional livewire. Wayne, though by and large an explosive dynamite on stage, is much calmer with his emotions. Wayne's a lot more easy-going; his soul is like the calm sandy white beaches to Greg's swirling, crashing wave-like personality.

Sometimes when Greg watches the news and sees what he calls "sheer stupidity" over some government policy or something, he bursts out laughing that distinctive laugh of his. Wayne knows that beneath that chortling facade, Greg's simmering and boiling over with fury inside. It's one of the things that makes Greg attractive to him-- Greg's knowledge, intellect and passion about politics and current affairs. So Wayne cups his hands around Greg's sides and runs them up and down Greg's flanks until he feels Greg's pulse slow down to normal. If he's behind Greg, he spoons him and kisses the back of his neck in a bid- usually successful- to make Greg forget the atrocities of the world. Greg goes limp in his arms and moans, "Oh yeah, that's good." 

Then one day during a taping, Drew accidentally calls Africa a country. A slip of the tongue or a simply cross of the eyes, maybe, but to Greg's knowledgeable mind and sharp wit, it's instant stupidity. So instinctually Greg unleashes his explosive guffaw, as such extreme idiocy amuses him to no end. Well, Greg's not angry this time, but his laughter is close to uncontrollable. On stage, on air, in public, Wayne knows he can't be stroking Greg's sides this time to get him to calm down, so he reaches over almost immediately to grab his forearm firmly yet placatingly, channelling his thoughts of "calm down, baby" through the tip of his fingers.

And it works, because next thing Wayne knows, Greg is apologising sincerely to Drew, explaining, "I couldn't help it, Drew", while Wayne is secretly beaming that he's managed to put out Greg's derisive fire with a mere touch.

Ooh, this is interesting. I've never watched Wayne's reaction to Greg's laughter there before, but now I have to go take a look. ^_^ Beautiful characterizations on them both.
