Title: Making The Family Skeleton Dance
Fandom: Whose Line is it Anyway?
Pairing: Ryan Stiles/Colin Mochrie
Rating: PG-13
Summary: It was easy to convince them they were, but harder to convince themselves they weren't.
_____Chapter 1_____
Colin pulled Ryan towards the door, but the younger man was refusing to cooperate. He continually pulled back and away from Colin, muttering about how this was a bad idea.
"Come on! Ryan, you wanted something to distract your family from your divorce, and I came up with this. You thought it was a good idea at the time."
Colin gave his friend one last shove before they arrived at the door.
Ryan shrugged, as he wasn't so sure about the plan, to be honest, but he was willing to try it since they were already at his parents' place. He smiled when he saw their old welcome mat still in place after all these years, but something was different, he noted.
Ryan smiled when he realized it was the giant sign that said "Stiles Family Reunion" proceeded by the date of which it would be officially held. Ryan knew that half the family was behind the door his best friend was knocking on. His parents always gave away rooms in their house like it was a hotel, which in a way, it was.
Everyone who couldn't get a room, or afford one, always stayed there. Every time the rooms got divided up he got his old room. Even though he had the option of 'upgrading' to a larger room, he always chose to stay in his room. It really was home to him, familiar and comforting.
He was glad he didn’t upgrade. This way Colin could see his childhood home, something he'd never been able to share with him before. This was the only time he was glad he had never taken anything down from when he was a kid.
Ryan turned his head to the sound of the door opening in front of him, to see his mother excitedly embracing Colin.
"Colin! Dear, I didn't expect you to be here!"
She released the Canadian, and now she moved on to hug her son.
"Ryan, why did you bring Colin along, honey?"
Ryan took a deep breath, and decided to go along with Colin's aforementioned plan. He slung an arm around Colin's waist and looked into his mother's eyes, as he hoped he could keep, no pun intended, a straight face while saying this to her. This was, however, the only person, besides Colin, who could see right through him.
"Colin and I are here together.”
His mother looked back at him, her smile still pleasant as she answered.
"Well, yes dear I can see that quite clearly. That's why I asked."
"No, Mom. I mean we're, Col and I are...well...er..."
Colin looked over at his crashing and burning friend, as a thought came to mind. It was risky, weighing how Ryan might react, but it seemed worth it. Even if it ruined their plan to distract the Stiles' family, at least he'd get to do something he'd always wanted to do.
He brought his hands to either side of his best friend’s face and gently brought their lips together. Colin felt Ryan momentarily tense up, but was relieved when he felt him relax, and actually bring his other arm behind his head. When they pulled away, Colin had to hold back a laugh when he saw poor Mrs. Stiles face.
"I see. Well I guess I shouldn't be surprised.” she said, her confused smile now a happy one.
"What does that mean?” Ryan asked his mother defensively, as she brought him into another hug and whispered an ‘I love you’.
"I am so proud of you boys, now come on in, and don't worry I won't say a thing unless you tell me to.” she said, zipping her lips for effect and gliding into the house.
"Mom! What do you mean you shouldn't be surprised?” Ryan called after her, sounding desperate.
"Come on, Ry Guy we have to go be lovers.” Colin said as he linked his arm with Ryan’s and pulled him inside.
"But Col, I want to know what she meant," He whispered fiercely.
"Well ,then ask her!" Colin said softly, putting on a fake smile as they approached the living room where the rest of the family was lounging.
Ryan felt the older man squeeze his side as his father approached them.
"There are my boys!" The elderly man exclaimed wrapping his arms around the both of them.
Ryan smiled; he knew that to his father Colin was just like another son.
"So why'd you bring my real favourite?" He teased Ryan.
"Oh, we're together." Ryan muttered, hoping that this time the whole 'we're lovers' spiel would go more smoothly.
"Like, together? You mean...a couple?" His father stammered, and Ryan felt the need to put a joke out there to break the tension his father obviously felt.
"See, Mom?" Ryan turned to his mother, "It wasn't that hard to figure out!"
Colin chuckled next to them, and wrapped his arms around Ryan. He realised that he was enjoying this maybe a little too much, but for the moment he let it pass. He could always blame it on the high of performing later, because that's what they really were doing, performing.
"O, honey, you and your jokes," Ryan's mother giggled and retreated into the kitchen, which left Ryan to turn back to his father, who had become wide-eyed and was quite obviously stunned.
"I guess I should have known." He said and shook his head. Ryan, too, shook his head, but not out of acknowledgment. Ryan was shaking his head out of disbelief.
"Here we go again! What is wrong with you people?" Ryan was bewildered by the fact that his parents figured he would one day be in a gay relationship.
"Oh, Ryan," is all his father said before he turned and walked out of the room, as if trying to avoid the conversation. Ryan was still baffled at why his family would find this obvious, but he let it go for the moment.
"Okay then," Ryan put an arm around Colin, "Let's go upstairs and get settled.”
This was followed by a catcall from somewhere around the living room. Colin wasn't sure who it came from, but it looked as if Ryan knew exactly who it was.
Ryan shook his head and looked over a teenage girl sitting on the couch, "Just hush, Pint-sized Liberace." He playfully growled, obviously knowing who she was.
Colin was curious but didn't ask until they were upstairs and safely in Ryan's, notheir, room.
"Pint-sized Liberace?" Colin asked bluntly, sitting on the bed next to Ryan.
"Yea," the younger man said as if the reason he had called her that was obvious, "That's what we here call the young, homosexual, pianist prodigy of the family."
"I'm not even going to ask," He sighed and lay back on the bed, "I forgot how weird your family was."
Ryan watched as Colin stretched out on the bed, suddenly very aware of how pleasantly attractive the older man was.
"I like to think of us as quirky, if you will. We all have our odd little ways. ” Ryan said, taking a seat next to his best friend.
"Mmmm,” Colin hummed, pleased by the proximity. “so what's yours?"
The question was simple , but it threw Ryan for a loop. What was his "special quirk"? He was shocked when nothing came to mind. Of course, he wasn't going to let Colin know this.
Placing a hand on his knee and fixing him with the goofiest grin he could conjure up Ryan said to Colin, "I’m funny."
Colin rolled his eyes.
"Oh yeah, Stiles, you're a hoot and a half.” he teased.
"Hey! I’m funnier than you...Captain Hair."
Colin raised an eyebrow and sat up. So he wanted to play, huh?
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Well I have one word for you Ryan Stiles: tapioca."
Ryan bit his lip as he shook with pent up laughter. It wasn't so much the joke that got to him, it was the memory. He could not stop laughing and he could see that Colin loved it. He was glad that something he did could put a happy, almost serene look on his friend’s face, even if that something was looking like a complete fool.
Colin could see that his playful tactics were working, so he decided to take it to the next level while Ryan was still laughing.
"Oh, wait I have another. Arctic. Tern.” he said pronouncing the last two words sharply.
Ryan's tight smile spread into a huge grin, the pure, genuine, grin Colin often dreamt about. His shoulders were shaking slightly and he had his left arm cradled in his right hand, his left hand covering his mouth, as he fought a losing battle.
Colin thought he had won their play battle, but quickly realized how wrong he was when Ryan's hands were suddenly at the sides of his face. Their lips meet and Colin instantly knew what Ryan was doing.
He smiled against the younger man's supple lips. They pulled away, Ryan's hands still on Colin's face, and Colin began to chuckle softly, his version of Ryan's knee slapping display of "losing it".
"Maltese Burger, baby!” Ryan said softly.
Colin could only look at his friend in amusement. Suddenly all the love he felt for the lanky man in front of him came rushing forward.
He didn't know why, but Ryan actually remembering that line, really touched him. Interlacing his fingers with the ones resting on his face, Colin brought his lips to Ryan's again. He was pleased when Ryan responded gently; it was an innocent display of emotion, but still meant something.
"Um...ahem...”
Ryan and Colin turned their eyes to the door, to find Roger, the eldest of the four Stiles’ boys, in the door way looking quite uncomfortable. They realized why, and simultaneously dropped their hands. Ryan stood and walked over to his brother.
