Ryan watched his lover mill around the kitchen fixing dinner. He had suggested they go out to eat, but Colin said cooking at home relaxed him, and he really didn’t feel like dealing with people tonight.
Ryan bit his bottom lip guiltily, knowing why Colin was feeling so anti-social. It had all started with the superhero name “Captain Hair”, and Drew, Wayne, Chip, and Ryan had quickly latched on to that nick name. Riding Colin mercilessly. And then Newsflash happened. Colin had been good about the whole thing, laughing it off, pretending that it didn’t bother him.
Ryan had become aware of Colin’s discomfort early enough on, that he quickly hopped off the bandwagon and started jumping to Colin’s defense. But he now felt that it just hadn’t been enough. Too little, too late. Colin calling his name brought him out of his thoughts with a start.
“Huh?” he blinked.
“I said will you go set the table? Dinner is almost ready.” Colin looked mildly amused, as he handed his lover two plates with silverware stacked on them.
“Oh yeah, sure.” Ryan nodded, turning towards the dining room.
“Oh, and pick out a wine to go with dinner too, would you?” Colin called after him.
“Sure. Did you want red or white?”
“I’ll leave that one up to you.” Colin commented, disappearing up the stairs. “I’ll be right back, gotta pee.” Ryan shook his head as he finished with the table, and moved to look the wine rack over. Choosing a nice burgundy, he set it to chill in the wine cooler while he set out two wine glasses next to the water glasses.
As an after thought, Ryan pulled out the candles that they only used on special occasions, and arranged them becomingly on the table. He was lighting them when Colin reappeared. Colin stood at the foot of the stairs with his eyebrows raised curiously.
“Candles? What’s the occasion? Drew’s 1000th hair crack?” His sarcasm wasn’t harsh, but it was certainly evident. He was still smarting from the whole afternoon.
“No special occasion,” Ryan shrugged. Colin sighed and headed for the kitchen again, and Ryan kicked himself mentally. He could have said “any occasion with you is special, Col” or “I love how the candle light plays in the depths of your eyes“, but all he could manage was “no special occasion“? And now Colin felt even worse, thanks to him.
Now what?
****
Dinner was a quiet event, Colin didn’t have much to say, and Ryan didn’t know what to say to make him feel better. A lot of things had come to mind, but he had dismissed them thinking they sounded phony and placating. He didn’t want to placate his lover, he wanted to make his lover feel worth while again.
“You’re awfully quiet tonight, Ryan. What’s the matter?” Colin said out of the blue, startling Ryan from his thoughts.
“I’ve just got a lot on my mind is all,” Ryan gave his head a mental thump. Another missed opportunity.
“Yeah, I know that with two shows in production right now you’ve got a lot on your plate. You go ahead to bed, I’ll clean dinner up.”
Ryan dropped his fork on his plate with a loud clatter, and put his hand to the side of Colin’s face, cradling it gently. “I wasn’t thinking about work, Col. I was thinking of all the missed opportunities I’ve had tonight to let you know what you mean to me.”
Colin blinked at him in surprise. “Missed opportunities?”
“Even though the show went great today, you were the brunt of most of the jokes. And I jumped on the bandwagon like an asshole. I’m not good enough for you, and I don’t know why you even stay with me.”
Colin lay his hand over Ryan’s and his smile was gentle. “Ryan, you make me happy. And who says your not good enough for me?”
“I’m not. No one is good enough for you. You sit there and take all the shit in the world with a smile on your face. And I treat you like you mean nothing to me.” Ryan was hushed by one of Colin’s fingers pressed to his lips.
“Ryan, stop. Is this about the ‘Captain Hair’ stuff?” Ryan nodded, and Colin sighed. “Okay, that did bother me, and then you started with the ‘Captain Hair’ again as the toddler, and that bothered me more. But you didn’t take it any farther than two games. You stopped and started jumping all over Drew’s case after that.”
“But I never should have started in the first place,” Ryan protested. Colin smiled and kissed Ryan gently on the lips.
“Then I forgive you for being such an insensitive bastard.” He stood, and gathered the dinner plates, walking them into the kitchen. Ryan was close on his heels, gathering the other man into his arms as soon as he had put the plates in the sink. He kissed his lover with a fierce passion, sliding his hands down to cup Colin’s tight buttocks in his big hands.
They pulled apart after a moment or two. “I need to wash the dishes, Ryan.”
“They’ll still be there in the morning, Col. And I’ll wash them. It’s about time I started doing some of the domestic duties for a change. I need to treat you like the royalty you are.” Colin blushed and tried to pull away.
“I’m not royalty.”
“You are to me. You’re the king of my heart.” Colin rolled his eyes, and gave Ryan a smirk. “Okay, so it was lame and corny. But it’s the truth.” Ryan’s love for Colin was quickly manifesting itself in the form of an erection, and he knew exactly what he wanted to do with that erection too!
“Let’s go to bed, Col,” Ryan whispered in his ear.
“It’s not even eight-thirty,” Colin giggled into his neck.
“I said let’s go to bed, I didn’t say anything about sleeping.” He growled, rubbing his bulge against Colin’s thigh. Colin closed his eyes and took a deep breath, when Ryan’s hand found it’s way to the hardening bulge at his own crotch. “Nope, definitely no sleeping for us tonight.”
Ryan pulled away from Colin, grabbing his hand and dragging him toward the stairs.
“None at all?” Colin asked, his eyes wide and a little wild. “I don’t know if you had noticed, but I’m not as young as I used to be.”
“Okay,” Ryan stopped as they entered the bedroom, and pulled Colin to him again. “How about we take a little nap in between each lovemaking session, then?” Colin chuckled and kissed him.
“Sounds like a good plan. Just do me a favor.”
“Anything, for you, sexy. Just name it.”
“Don’t scream out ‘Captain Hair’ when you orgasm.” Colin teased, as Ryan removed his shirt.
“Alright,” Ryan agreed pushing his lover’s pants and boxers off his hips. “But ‘Captain Hair’ is damn sexy, and he turns me on.”
“On second thought, could you pretend that I’m ‘Captain Hair’ then. I’d like to think I turn you on.”
Ryan snorted as he reached for the lube. “What ever turns you on, Colin,” he growled hungrily. “What ever turns you on.”
The End
