Title: Pretended
Pairings: Greg/Tony implied, Greg/Chip implied, Greg/Ryan implied.
Rating: PG? Yell if it isn't high enough.
Summary: Pretending; Tony visits America.
Author’s Notes: A short look at Tony/Chip, as requested by
rudelypinioned.
Word Count: 369 words.
---
He sat on the aeroplane and wondered why he was there. Why had he told Greg he’d been visiting? Why hadn’t he just gone to America and stayed for the sights? Why hadn’t he ignored the people?
Damnit, why hadn’t he just stayed home?
But no. He had mentioned to Greg that he was coming, Greg had invited him to stay, and he had accepted.
They weren’t pretending they still cared, but when Tony had turned up on Greg’s doorstop, Greg had served him tea and they fell into their old pattern. When Tony asked about the new, American Whose Line, Greg told him everything – how he wasn’t a permanent performer, how Ryan was with Colin now, and how different Drew was from Clive.
Tony understood, even when Greg pretended not to notice that he had poured himself tea, not coffee.
-He spent the night in Greg’s bed.
There was no sex, just the simple warmth of companionship and the minor ache of what they didn’t feel. The romance and lust was gone, now, lost to the sands of time.
-----
Chip was a surprise.
Tony had run into him as he was leaving, and a minor greeting became a conversation of Greg’s front step.
The one topic they both avoided was Greg.
Chip explained what he was doing on Greg’s front step this early in the morning, and Tony explained who he was and why he was here, but neither of them explained what they meant to Greg.
Perhaps they both knew that they weren’t what Greg wanted, and perhaps Chip knew that what had happened to Tony would happen to him, too. (Greg wasn’t just torn away from Tony: he left him to follow Ryan.)
Tony never said a warning, and Chip never asked for one.
They didn’t reenter Greg’s apartment, and Chip asked Tony what England had been like.
Somehow, that night, Tony found himself pretending Chip was Greg, and Chip pretended that Tony was Greg was Wayne, and Greg never asked where they had been that night.
---
As the aeroplane touched down on English soil, Tony told himself that he was done with America, and Americans.
Greg wasn’t his, after all, and neither was Chip.

Date: 2006-08-30 04:58 am (UTC)"Tony/Greg bed infestation." I love that. None of us mind that kind of infestation of course.
Maybe that's why there used to be so much Brad/Greg. Brad wants Colin. Greg wants Ryan. It's rejected comfort love really.
I wish I could find a pairing where Greg would really be happy. The only one that comes close to me is Colin/Ryan/Greg. Though, Jeff/Greg isn't too bad. It still seems a bit like a rebound.

Date: 2006-09-01 03:15 am (UTC)I can't really picture Greg and Tony happy, though, because Tony went through a long period of depression. Greg never seemed that happy himself. I wouldn't be too surprised if he went through it as well.
