Chapter 2
"Sorry to surprise you like that.” Ryan said embracing the slightly shorter man.
"Uh, yeah...what’s going on?” Roger stammered.
Colin sighed and walked over the two brothers. He gave Roger a hug, glad when it was returned.
"Col and I, we're a couple.” Ryan said bluntly. Even though Roger had just seen them kissing, Ryan doubted if he would have caught on if he put it differently.
Roger gave them a blank stare before Ryan's words registered.
"I see. Cool. Congrats, guys."
Colin smiled. Roger had always been the most laid back, and not to mention liberal, of the brothers.
"I’m glad you think so, Rog." Ryan said, clapping his brother on the shoulder.
"No problem, Ry."
They shared a smile and some communication through eye contact, much like that of Colin and Ryan.
"I’m not too shocked anyway. Oh, dinner's ready by the way.” he said, turning to leave.
"What? How come? Ryan said as they followed him down the stairs.
Roger just shook his head and laughed softly.
"My family is insane! Ryan said loudly as they entered the dining room.
The elegantly set table was filled with Stiles, but two seats were empty. One next to the head of the table, where Ryan's father, and one next to the teenager Ryan had referred to as "pint-sized Liberace. The room got noticeably quieter as the room saw that the two men were holding hands. It was funny, Ryan hadn't even noticed they were holding hands until just then either.
Ryan cleared his throat.
"Um, I, we, have an announcement to make. Some of you may already know, but I just want to officially tell you all that... Ryan trailed off.
Despite his acting skills and complete comfort on a stage, he was quite nervous. Coming out in front of his whole family was one thing, but telling them he was with Col was another. Ryan looked down at the slightly balding Canadian at his side, and took in his warm smile, and his liquid brown eyes that always seemed to shine for him. A second wind of confidence came to Ryan, and all at once he was proud to say he was with such a caring being, even if it was for fake.
"We're a couple." He let himself finish confidently.
"Ha!" The one Colin only knew as 'Pint-sized Liberace' said comically, "I'm not the only one now!"
And Colin noticed something about her accent; it wasn't the casual American accent the rest of the family held. It was somewhat familiar to Colin, but before he could ask about it Ryan made a comment.
"Christ, kid! Where did they ship you off to?"
The teenager blushed slightly, "I decided to go to this art school in Scotland, okay?"
"Scotland? Who the hell would want to go to Scotland?" Ryan joked as he walked Colin over to the chair next to the teen and took his own seat in the one next to his father.
"Excuse me?" Colin decided to cut in, "What, may I ask, is wrong with Scotland?"
"No offence Col, honey," Ryan almost laughed when he added the pet name, but managed to hold himself together. "But Scotland isn't exactly the greatest tourist attraction."
"Well then, I'll just have to prove you wrong then." The balding Canadian said matter-of-factly. Ryan didn't reply, but instead he shook his head and started working on the mashed potatoes on his plate.
Everyone started eating as the "new couple" continued to bicker, much in the manner of an old married couple, he noted happily. At first the giddiness he got from this realization didn't affect him, but as it sank in he became more and more flustered.
Colin wasn't sure why he was thinking this, but he decided he liked it and wanted to go along for the ride, "So, what's your name?" He decided to ask the teenager.
"I'm Regina, Ryan's niece, but if you want you can call me Liberace, like everyone else does. I don't mind too much. Brilliant man, he was." She joked with Colin and he realized just then how much she reminded him of Ryan.
As the meal moved along Colin began to lose the nervous feeling that he had at the beginning of the meal. At first he hadn't even realized that he had been nervous, but as the night progressed he could feel it clearly. How could he not? He was of course playing the lover of his very attractive best friend. A man Colin considered, if he were female, to be out of his league.
Somewhere amognst the happy conversation and the exchange of dinner plates o dessert plates, time had passed in a great manner. The big grandfather clock in the corner read almost eleven-thirty.
Colin thought he'd gotten rid of the nervous feeling during the course of dinner, but for some reason it appeared again as bed time approached. He found himself following Ryan up to their room slower than normal, and he couldn't get his mind to stay in one place. Just like his eyes it kept drifting to Ryan's lean frame and handsome features.
"Col? You okay? You seemed distracted after dinner." Ryan walked to the older man, pulling him into an embrace.
"Oh., uh, yea. I don't know. I think the day was just a little overwhelming, as I've said, you have quite the family there." Colin smiled, relieved that he could joke.
Ryan felt Colin begin to relax into his arms, "Yeah, yeah., you said," He pulled away from Colin to get dressed, or rather undressed, considering he didn't like to wear much in bed.
"Oh, Colin you don't mind if I don't wear much do you?"
This made Colin's heartbeat quicken, but he ignored it, "No. I am your lover, right?"
"Mmmhmm, maybe you shouldn wear much either."
Did I just say that out loud? Ryan asked himself. Oh God, I think I did. The truth was since the start of dinner all of Ryan's thoughts were centered on Colin. Whether it be the innocent curiousity of if he slept on the left or right side of bed, or the naughtier curiosity of if he liked the top or bottom during sex.
Colin's eyes widened at the younger man's casual comment, "Uh...why?"
"It's just that it would help with the whole 'lovers' image." Ryan began to unbutton his jeans, leaving Colin stunned as he watched his friend's hands pull them down, revealing tanned if somewhat scrawny legs.
"What? My brothers have long since perfected the art of unlocking my door and don’t doubt for a second that they wouldn’t sneak in and take incriminating pictures of us, which, by the way, would help the 'lovers' image. Plus it would give them an eyeful for being so damn nosy."
"Oh, I wish my family was as fun as yours." Colin still hadn't taken his eyes off of Ryan, who was now working on the buttons of his shirt. It was amazing how elegant his finger were. Ryan could be a real klutz, but his hands were always graceful.
"No, you don't." Ryan said as he tossed his shirt aside, realizing that the older man was still fully dressed, "Okay, I'm undressed, now it's your turn. Are we going to do this the easy way or the hard way?"
Colin chuckled, "How come I don't really think I'll enjoy either one?"
"Because you're a suspicious little man." Ryan said as he walked over to his friend and began unbuttoning his shirt for him.
"Little? Excuse me, but since when am I considered little?" Colin tried to shove Ryan away and take over the removal of his clothes, but the younger man was persistent. He walked back to Colin calmly and pushed the unbuttoned shirt off of his shoulders, smiling slyly the whole time.
"Since you decided to become my little love monkey." He joked, sliding down his jeans. Colin hadn't even realized that he was doing so until Ryan pushed him back, making him step out of the jeans.
"Since when am I your love monkey?" Colin felt himself being tackled by his friend. Colin took advantage of his spot: pinned on the bed and retaliated by tickling the younger man's stomach.
"Aww! How adorable!"
Both Ryan and Colin's head shot up to the doorway to see Roger standing with a camera, obviously taking a picture. Ryan turned to give Colin a look that said 'told you so', making Colin realize what it looked like they were doing.
Ryan happened to be straddling him and his hands had ventured to the younger man's waistline. Ryan seemed oblivious to this. Once Colin realized that Ryan had no clue he tried to move, to no avail. The younger man was hell-bent on getting his revenge after his older brother had left.
"Hush, Rog." Ryan said, more submissively than Colin had ever heard from him.
"How about a kiss, bro?" Ryan's elder joked.
This didn't seem to faze Ryan at all and he shrugged it off, leaning down to kiss Colin. Colin was in mid breath as Ryan kissed him, and Ryan knew he had shocked him, so he decided to take it a step further.
Ryan slid his tongue into Colin's mouth gently. Colin gasped, obviously not expecting such a thing from his friend, not that he particularly minded much. He decided it would be fun to have Ryan back down first. Colin upped his game; pulling Ryan closer and entwining their tongues, making Ryan actually moan.
This excited Colin. He slid his hands down the younger man body, cupping his ass gently. They had both completely forgotten about their visitor snapping pictures in the doorway.
"Okay, ew. Stop it!" Roger playfully covered his eyes. This caused both Ryan and Colin to yank their heads back at the same time, and Colin to remove his hands from their place on Ryan's hindquarters.
"Sorry, Bro, you just have to get used to it." Ryan said, being his old wise ass self again.
Ryan's older brother shook his head playfully, and walked out the door, closing it behind him.
"You know, you're a really good kisser." Colin said, only partially joking. Ryan smirked smuggly in reply.
What Ryan did next didn't surprise Colin as much as raise the temperature in the room. He brought his face to Colin's so their noses touched at the tips and their lips brushed against one another , not a kiss but almost. Colin, in a natural reaction, brought his arms up behind Ryan's back and rested his hands on the warm plane. Ryan had his hands cradled underneath Colin's head and was softly stroking his remaining hair.
"You know, I could give you a few pointers. Ryan breathed, rather than said.
Colin could feel Ryan's soothing breath wash over his mouth. He could smell Ryan's unique fragrance, a mix of cologne and ever present pine that he found intoxicating.
"Oh really, like be my teacher? Colin whispered back, letting himself be swept away in the moment, no matter how surreal, or fleeting, it felt.
"I could definitely teach you a thing or two."
Colin skated his hand lightly down Ryan's back, his fingers barely touching the smooth skin, reveling in the shudder and soft gasp it brought from the man on top of him. Ryan opened his mouth to say something but a sharp exclamation interrupted him.
"Holy shit on a shingle! This was followed by a loud bang as the suitcase their visitor held dropped to the floor beside him.
Ryan practically ran to the other side of the room, Colin did the same.

Date: 2006-06-13 02:59 am (UTC)I quite enjoyed this... I've always loved stories with lots of sexual tension, and this definitely has that.
I love how Ryan's whole family knows that Ryan and Colin should be together. LOL. And the part where they were holding hands without even realizing it was really sweet.
And of course, the kiss! Gotta love a good Ry/Col kiss... :)
