I was looking through past entries in the community and I realised I forgot to post chapter four! again, thanks to broadway_bound3 for betaing, you rock!



Title: Rendezvous- Chapter four, Rapport

Summary:

“Life was really good for awhile. I was raking in a lot of cash and my family was happy, plus, I got to spend my days working with friends. Yes, life was good.”

“Drew had taken over Whose Line and moved it to America. At first I didn’t think they’d want me doing [the show], so I really didn’t mention it until Ryan was like, ‘you’re doing [Whose Line] right?’”

“I don’t think I could have done Whose Line without Colin. I was spoiled on him. Fooling around with my best friend and getting paid for it, it was as close to heaven as I’d ever get.”

“From the start I told Ryan I wanted Colin on [Whose Line]. He was such a good performer and such a nice person. I knew he would make a positive impact on the show.”

“When Ryan told me that he and Drew wouldn’t do Whose Line without me, I was shocked. I seriously didn’t think they’d want me. I wasn’t the best, like Ryan, and I wasn’t good looking either. I was just kind of…blah. There really wasn’t a demographic I would help…”

“Colin told Ryan and me he didn’t think we’d want him [for the show] and we were utterly shocked. Ryan was completely…well, baffled… …I finally told him to go and talk to [Colin].”

“I went to talk to Colin [about Whose Line]. When he’d originally brought this up we were on the set of The Drew Carey Show, so I led him back to my dressing room. We started talking about why he didn’t think he was good enough for Whose Line. I told him to shut up and that he is a great improviser.”

“After Ryan got my confidence back on the performing front I moved to the whole, ‘but I’m not good looking thing’. I guess I was looking for an excuse, even though I really wanted to do [Whose Line].”

“Colin said he wasn’t handsome enough for the show, and I was just like ‘bullshit’. He is adorable, even if he won’t admit it. I told him that too, but the man just wouldn’t accept it. He kept saying that he wasn’t good looking and he wouldn’t get the kind of sex appeal the American networks were looking for. So I had to prove it to him, somehow.”

“It started out as a kiss- just a small one. Then it quickly became more like the one at that party [at Clive’s]. We would have probably gone all the way if Drew and Diedrich [Bader] hadn’t walked in.”

“I kissed Colin. Of course, as it always seems to go, it didn’t stay ‘just a kiss’. No, before we knew it we were making out, clothes coming off, everything. I’m sure it would have ended with actual sex if we hadn’t been walked in on.”

“Diedrich was walking with me down the hall because he was heading home. Being the nice guy he was he offered to walk with me to Ryan’s dressing room. I told him [after they walked in on Ryan and Colin] he never has to do that again. I think we may have been scarred for life…Anyway, we walked in on them going at it, and it was not a pretty sight for me. Not at all.”

“Colin and I were up and dressed so fast you’d think we were Olympic sprinters. Drew just kept saying ‘what the hell?’ over and over. I don’t ever think I’ve seen him so absolutely baffled before in my life.”

“Drew’s reaction was funny, yes, but Diedrich’s was hilarious. He was standing in the doorway wide-eyed and all of a sudden he goes ‘oh, yea, I was going home’ and takes off down the hallway.”

“They sat me down and we had a little talk. We agreed not to mention [the event] to anyone else, and Ryan said he’d talk to Diedrich. I seriously would have never guessed that Colin and Ryan liked each other like that, but apparently they did.”

“After the show started taping things started to get back to normal for Colin and me. We sat down and talked about what happened [in the dressing room]. We agreed that we shouldn’t and couldn’t do that again, and went back to being as close to normal as possible for us. Of course there was a lot of innuendo coating our jokes after that.”

“Those jokes were the bane of my existence for a few years there. It was the only time I could let myself act like that in front of Ryan. If I let myself do some of those things [he did on stage] I would lose the control I had.”

“I can’t believe some of the stuff [Colin and Ryan] got away with. I mean, man, they were always groping each other or kissing each other on the show. If I didn’t know any better I would have thought they went back to their dressing rooms after every show and went at it like rabbits.”

“We did some crazy things on camera, and sometimes off camera. We got to the point where we didn’t even try to be subtle anymore. It was more of a task to push each other until one of us cracked.”

“Ryan and I really did try to be subtle about [their feelings for each other] at first, but it just started getting to hard to do. Then it became a little competition for us. On stage was the only time we could act like [a couple] and get away with it. If we tried to do anything too ‘friendly’ off stage we’d get looks from everyone. We knew that the stage was like our own little safe haven.”

“I remember a lot of things they did, like that letter H thing and the whole ‘ravenous boa constrictor’. The thing I remember the most is the ‘Maltese Burger’ skit, because that was the start of everything else.”

“The Maltese Burger was definitely one of the funniest things I’ve witnessed in my life. But it was also the start of something else for Ryan and Colin. I kind of felt like telling them to tone it down a little, they had wives and kids, but then again the audience loved it.”

“After a while the audience even started making the [suggestive] sort of suggestions. In ‘moving people’ they’d put us in suggestive positions, so it wasn’t just Colin and I doing it.”

“I’m still not sure what triggered the whole ‘Maltese Burger’ thing. Before then we’d wordlessly agreed we wouldn’t do that sort of thing. It was too risky for us. Yet somehow we came to an agreement to do [the Maltese Burger skit]. I really set Ryan up for it, but I didn’t think he’d actually do it.”

“I caught on to what Colin was indicating for me to do [during the skit] early on, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to go through with it. When Colin wrapped up his little ‘speech’ I decided to go for the gusto. I took his head in my hands and kissed him firmly on the lips.”

“I’d be lying if I said that kiss didn’t excite me just a little.”

“After that taping Colin and I didn’t even talk about what happened [on stage]. We didn’t really need to; after all, we already had made our decisions on the matter.”

“Somehow Colin and I went from talking to having hot sex on my couch. I’m not even sure how that happened; one minute we’re having a mature conversation about what happened on stage, and the next we’re making out like mindless sex slugs.”

“I actually walked by Ryan’s dressing room and closed the door. They didn’t even notice; they were too engrossed in each other. I decided it was best not to interrupt their ‘conversation’.”

“Colin and I didn’t even talk about what happened [in his dressing room]. We really didn’t need to though; we already decided silently that we weren’t going to pursue it. It was too dangerous to have an affair, even if we loved each other so much.”

“At first I felt the same way as Ryan [about not having an affair], but I couldn’t keep my feelings in like that. After a while it started to eat at me, and at the end of the last season [of Whose Line] I had made a decision. I couldn’t not be with Ryan, even if it meant a divorce from my wife.”

“I knew it was eating away at Colin, so I wasn’t surprised when he approached me about it a couple years later. I’ll never regret my decision either.”
