Colin strolled down the backstage corridor, adrenaline from the show still pumping through his veins. It was good to end their current run on such a high note; the audience tonight had been on fine form, yelling some unusual suggestions which had resulted in some particularly good improv scenes. It was always a great feeling when you got it right, which certainly wasn't guaranteed all the time; he and Brad had gone through a couple of disastrous nights earlier in the year. Now they were able to take a well-deserved break for thanksgiving and christmas, and would re-start the tour in the new year. He was very much looking forward to spending the holidays with Ryan, especially since they had hardly seen each other in the last few months.
"Hey, Col! Wait up!"
Colin glanced over his shoulder and slowed his pace slightly to allow his partner in crime to catch up. "Where did you disappear to?" he asked, once Brad was alongside.
"Oh, I had a phone call," Brad answered cheerily. "There's hardly any signal in here, so I went outside to take it."
"Seana, by any chance?" Colin smiled, pushing through a set of double doors which led to their dressing room.
Brad grinned and shrugged. "Well; she obviously misses me desperately, and it is my birthday."
Colin snorted. "Really? You never mentioned it."
Brad nudged his arm playfully. "Hey, it wasn't me who brought it up in the show. I just had an adoring fan in the audience."
"Yeah, it must have been pretty lonely for her."
"Ha ha," Brad replied sarcastically, as they finally reached the right door.
Colin smirked and opened the door; his reply cut off by a loud shout from inside.
"SURPRISE!"
Colin visibly jumped while Brad swore loudly, clutching a hand to his chest. Standing before them were the four grinning faces of Ryan, Greg, Jeff, and Chip.
Ryan chuckled at Colin's shocked expression and moved forwards to pull him into a hug. Colin slowly realized that he wasn't dreaming and that Ryan was, in fact, right in front of him, and hugged him back tightly.
"I didn't think I'd see you for a couple more days," Colin murmured into Ryan's neck; revelling in the unique, intoxicating, scent of his lover.
"I can go again if you want," Ryan joked, but Colin tightened his hold.
"Don't even think about it."
Brad went to greet the rest of the newcomers, grinning happily. "What are you guys doing here? I thought you had a show on tonight."
"Ah," Greg replied mysteriously, clapping Brad on the back, "that's just what we wanted you to think. Happy birthday, man."
"Forty six years young," Jeff smiled, giving him a hug.
"Says the baby of the group," Greg snorted, wrapping an arm around his lover comfortably.
"I think we can say that the surprise was a success," Chip grinned beside them.
"I'll say. I actually think you aged me ten years," Brad joked.
Greg shrugged. "Well, we're gonna make up for that. We're here to take you and Col out on the town, in honour of your respective birthdays." He glanced over at the entwined forms of their friends, and added, "If we can pull those two apart, that is."
"Leave them alone, Greg," Jeff murmured to him. "Imagine how you'd feel if we didn't tour together."
Greg pretended to longingly think about that possibility and Jeff poked him hard in the side. "Ow! I didn't say anything!"
Brad laughed. "Man, you two are like an old married couple. Hey, did you catch the show?"
"Who do ya think shouted out 'prostitute'?" Greg smirked, still rubbing his injury.
"I thought that voice sounded familiar," Colin grinned as he walked over to hug them, Ryan close behind. "It's great to see you."
"Ryan's not the only one who misses you, you know," Jeff smiled, as he embraced Colin warmly.
"The feeling's mutual," Colin replied, returning the hug. "Brad can get a bit wearing after a while."
There were several snorts of amusement at Brad's indignant expression. "I shouldn't have to take this on my birthday."
Colin chuckled as he hugged Greg and Chip. "Is it your birthday, Brad? You should have said."
"So," Ryan said loudly, cutting off Brad's rebuke and wrapping his arms around Colin from behind, "are we all set for operation 'birthday bonanza'?"
"Bring it on," Brad grinned, grabbing his jacket. "So, what did you guys think of the show?"
"Meh," Greg shrugged, "it was no 'Whose Live' but it was alright."
"Just ignore him," Chip laughed, as they all walked to the door, "it was great. I'm glad we don't include mousetraps in our show, though."
"Speaking of which," Ryan began, pointing a finger at Brad, "I'd appreciate it if you didn't throw traps at my lover's crotch. We don't want you damaging anything vital, do we?"
Brad held his hands up defensively. "Hey, I was blindfolded; that was just a lucky shot."
"It'll be very unlucky for you if you hurt him."
Brad started to laugh, but quickly changed it to a solemn nod when he saw the deadly serious look in Ryan's eyes.
Colin snorted, then put a hand on Ryan's arm to pull him back as the others cheerfully headed for the parking lot. "How long have you been planning this surprise?"
Ryan shrugged, a smile playing around the edges of his mouth. "A while."
Colin smiled and brought Ryan's head down to meet his lips in a tender, yet passionate, kiss. "Have I told you lately that I love you?"
Ryan grinned, and pecked his lips quickly. "Yes, but I never tire of hearing it." He stepped back and held out his hand. "Shall we?"
Colin grasped Ryan's hand without hesitation, their fingers automatically interlinking, and they set off down the corridor together; their steps a little lighter than recent weeks, and their hearts happily at peace.
