Okay, here is some much needed fluff in an ocean of angst.  I wrote this for the prompts challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] bythewayiluvyou .  It's not brilliant (I seem to have lost my fluffy mojo at the moment) but I hope you enjoy it anyway!  ^_^

A/N - Just realized that LJ cut off the first paragraph of the story...bloody thing!  Now all fixed!

Ryan woke up from an extremely enjoyable dream and turned over to snuggle against his lover, thinking that they could maybe turn the dream into reality, but Colin wasn’t there. He stretched and looked at the bedside clock, shocked to realize that he’d slept in until past ten. Well, they had stayed up very late the previous night; star gazing in the backyard, under a heap of blankets to keep warm. When the clouds had begun to roll in, they’d both returned to the house where they had managed to warm each other up very successfully. He smiled at the memory, struck again by just how lucky he was.

Deciding to get up and go in search of his lover, Ryan swung his legs out of bed and threw on a robe. It was a few days before Christmas and there were piles of gifts, and boxes of decorations, everywhere; neither of them having had the time to do anything with them until now. As of today they were officially on holiday, and Ryan couldn’t wait to spend some quality time with Colin over the next few weeks. They had both been very busy lately, what with Colin’s tour with Brad and his own Whose Live shows with the boys, and Ryan had missed having his lover around.

As he approached the kitchen, the most delicious aroma wafted towards him and his stomach rumbled loudly. Colin was standing at the kitchen counter with his back to him,  listening to his MP3 player whilst busy decorating a batch of various shaped cookies which looked like they were fresh out of the oven. Ryan crept up behind him and slid his arms around Colin’s waist as he laid a kiss on his exposed neck.

Colin jumped and cursed as a large blob of icing escaped over his artwork.  “As nice as that is, Ry,” he began, taking his earphones out and turning his head to kiss Ryan quickly, “look what you’ve done to my santa.”

Ryan peered over his shoulder and grinned at the white icing which was now completely covering the cookie santa’s face. “That’s okay. He’s just been hit by a snowball.”

“Hmm,” Colin grumbled good-naturedly, turning around to face his taller lover. “I’m glad you’re finally awake; I was beginning to think that you were going to hibernate for the entire winter.”

Ryan chuckled and gave him a squeeze. “You know I can’t sleep well without you. You could come back to bed though…” He leant in for a kiss but found himself with a mouthful of cookie instead.

“Santa strikes back,” Colin grinned, his eyes sparkling mischievously.

Ryan snorted and began to chew, amazed by just how good it tasted. “Mmm. Where did you learn how to bake?”

Colin shrugged, wiping his hands on a cloth behind him. “Just something I’ve picked up over the years. I take it my cookies are a success then?”

“Absolutely delicious,” Ryan nodded once he’d swallowed, a predatory look creeping onto his face, “just like the man who made them.”

He leaned in for another kiss and, this time, Colin didn’t resist; he simply grabbed the front of Ryan’s robe and pulled him closer with a smile, sighing in satisfaction as their tongues met and entwined.

“Mmm, you taste even better,” Ryan murmured, moving his lips down Colin’s neck and nibbling gently.

Colin squirmed and pushed Ryan away playfully. “Save that for later,” he chuckled. “We’ve got lots to do today. Why don’t you go and jump in the shower while I finish these?”

“If I do, will you come and scrub my back?” Ryan asked suggestively, waggling his eyebrows.

Colin laughed and pushed him out of the kitchen. “We’ll see. Now go.”

After Ryan had a much longer shower than normal, Colin joining him halfway through, they decided to make a start on the vast amount of decorations. Anything that stayed still long enough was decorated; even Dexter, who was asleep on the couch. They had bought a large tree to go in the front room and, after lunch, decorated one side each in a playful competition to see who could finish first.

“Done,” Colin said, brushing his hands off after twenty minutes of carefully placing each piece.

“Me too.”

They took a step back to admire their hard work. Colin noticed with a smirk that his side was neat and precise, while Ryan’s was completely haphazard. Ryan noticed his expression and narrowed his eyes.

“What’s so funny?”

Colin bit his lip to keep from laughing. “Nothing,“  he said innocently, “it’s just that your side looks like you tripped with a box of decorations.”

He let out a squeak as Ryan grabbed him and pulled him down to the floor; reaching for a feather duster nearby and tickling mercilessly until Colin was left gasping for breath in-between giggles. Ryan looked down at his flushed face smugly, holding the duster aloft threateningly. “Do you yield?”

“Yes,” Colin panted, holding his hands up. “It’s beautifully decorated Ry.” He let out another snort of laughter and Ryan grinned, shifting so that he was lying on top of his lover.

“I can just keep you here, you know.”

Colin merely smiled up at him and wriggled slightly. “Fine by me.” He pulled Ryan down into a kiss, successfully distracting him from all thoughts of punishment.

Ryan’s hands reached under his shirt, and things were just getting interesting when a loud chorus of out-of-key carol singing started outside, one voice louder and more insistent than the rest. They broke the kiss and looked at each other, both saying the same name exasperatedly.

“Greg.”

With a groan of frustration, Ryan got up and pulled Colin to his feet; giving him a quick peck on the lips. “We’ll continue this later.”

“Bet your sexy ass we will,” Colin smirked, patting Ryan’s butt as they headed to the door. “You know, I don’t believe that Greg is singing the correct lyrics to ‘Deck the Halls'."

“Dip your balls in bowls of sherry, fa la la la laaaah, la la laa laaah. Tis the season to be merry, fa la la la laaaah, la la laa laaah….”

“Enough!” Ryan shouted as he opened the door, shaking his head at the smirking faces of Greg, Brad, Chip, and Jeff.  Colin, meanwhile, was trying his hardest not to laugh.

“Hey, you two,” Greg grinned. “We come bearing…well, nothing actually. Can we come in anyway? We’re freezing our asses off out here.”

Colin snorted and Ryan rolled his eyes. “Just get inside before the neighbours start complaining.”

They stood to one side as the guys piled in with grateful sighs of relief, stamping their frozen feet. Colin gave Greg, Chip, and Jeff a hug, having not seen them for a few months, and Brad pouted.

“Why don’t I get one?”

Colin chuckled at his childish expression. “I only saw you yesterday, Brad.” When Brad continued to stare at him pitifully, Colin relented and gave him a hug too.  “You’re such an idiot,” he said affectionately.

Brad grinned. “But you love me.”

“We thought we’d come see you before we head home tomorrow,” Jeff smiled as they headed into the front room. “Hope you don’t mind.”

“Well, actually….” Ryan began, but Colin elbowed him in the ribs playfully.

“Of course we don’t. We’ve actually got your gifts here somewhere.”

“Oooh, presents!” Brad exclaimed excitedly.

“You can’t open them until Christmas day though,” Colin said sternly, and Brad grumbled.  "Well, apart from you Jeff.  In all the craziness, I forgot to wrap your gift."

"That's okay," Jeff shrugged, sitting on the couch and waking Dexter up abruptly, "we kinda left your gifts at home."

“Love your Jekyll and Hyde christmas tree,” Greg grinned, examining it from both sides. “Is it the 'before and after alcohol' look?”

Colin glanced at Ryan’s expression and laughed, giving him a sideways hug. “It’s a work in progress. Now, who wants a beer?”

They all enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of booze, idle chat and playful banter, and it was dark by the time the guys reluctantly announced that they had to get going. Greg, who was the designated driver and therefore sober, grimaced as he opened the front door.

“It’s snowing pretty heavily out there.”

Jeff came up behind him and looked over his shoulder. “Excellent,” he said excitedly. “Now it feels like Christmas.” He turned his head and placed a sloppy kiss on Greg’s cheek.

Greg eyed him with a mixture of affection and exasperation, as the others came to have a look too. “Man, must you always regress to a kid when you’re drunk?”

Jeff frowned, and then nodded with a grin. “You still love me though.” His eyes lit up suddenly as a thought occurred to him. “Let’s go make snow angels.”

Greg snorted and turned to Brad and Chip. “Okay, I’ve gotta get Jeff back to the hotel before he drags me into his very own cheesy christmas movie."

"Hey, I love making snow angels," Brad grinned, and Chip nodded happily.  "Me too."

"Great," Greg muttered sarcastically.  "Now I've got three kids to look after."

Jeff laughed and poked his side playfully.  "Scrooge."

"Bah, humbug."

Colin laughed and leant back against Ryan's chest.  "Thanks for stopping by, guys."

"No problemo," Greg grinned.  "Thanks for the gifts.  You should get yours by spring at the latest."

Ryan smirked, wrapping his arms around Colin snugly.  "If it's anything like last year's gift, you can keep it."

"Really?" Greg replied, a wicked twinkle in his eyes, "I thought that would be right up your alley...if you know what I mean."

There was an outburst of giggles and sniggering, and Ryan rolled his eyes; a smile threatening to break through at any moment.

There was a flurry of hugs and goodbyes, then Ryan and Colin watched them drive away; sitting on the porch until their car disappeared into the blizzard.  Colin had Ryan's arms wrapped around him for warmth, and they were content to watch the snow fall silently around them for a while.  Gradually the blizzard eased, and the sky cleared, to reveal a wintry wonderland; everything in sight covered in a pure, white, blanket.  The moon's reflection off the snow was amazing, and gave the scene an almost magical quality.  The effect was somewhat spoilt by a strange figure emerging from the darkness and walking past them, keeping his head down.

Colin blinked and looked at Ryan with a frown.  "Was that...?"

Ryan nodded as he frowned too, not needing Colin to finish the question.  "Yeah; it was a man in a turkey costume."  There was a pause before they both burst into laughter.

"Well, you don't see that every day,"  Colin grinned, once the laughter had subsided.  "You gotta love this season."

They slipped back into a comfortable silence for a few minutes, feeling completely at peace in each other's arms.

"Are you warm enough?" Ryan asked softly, his head resting comfortably atop Colin's.

Colin smiled and looked up.  "I'm perfect."

Ryan smiled and kissed his nose.  "Yes, you are."

Colin reached up and placed his hand behind Ryan's head, bringing him down into a heartfelt kiss.  "Love you."

"Love you too," Ryan murmured, before rejoining their lips.

Neither of them noticed when the snow began to fall once more.
