Title - A Prod in the Right Direction Rating - NC-17 Pairing - Ryan/Colin, Greg/Jeff Disclaimer - I only own the story peeps! Okay, since mizzmeow guessed right first time I shall start off the flurry of fic postings! She requested an AU fic with Colin/Ryan as the main pairing but also with Greg/Jeff. I'll admit that this one was a struggle and I'm not particularly happy with it but I decided to post it anyway and let you guys decide for yourselves. Honest opinions appreciated! ^_^
Colin stared down at the document on his desk wearily. He’d read the same line three times now without taking it in, his brain refusing to cooperate any longer. He glanced up at the office clock and sighed. 4.43pm. Only another fifteen minutes to go, thank God.
It wasn’t that he hated his job, it could be very satisfying at times, but it was often monotonous and unfulfilling. He’d just always believed that he was destined for something greater in life; after all being an insurance investigator had hardly been one of his ambitions as a child and he was certain it wasn’t anyone else’s either. Still, it paid well and allowed him to live more than comfortably so he couldn’t complain too much. There were a lot of people who were far worse off, like the many people he came across in his line of work.
He was frequently amazed both by the ingenuity and the stupidity of some people’s attempts to defraud the company. He could generally spot a fraudulent claim at twenty paces, after many years of practice, and had gained quite a reputation within the company for his skills. Although those skills seemed to have deserted him today.
Shaking himself out of his reverie he picked up the document and began to read it again, determined to finish it this time and try to solve the somewhat puzzling case.
“Smile, it increases your face value.”
He looked up into the sparkling green eyes of his best friend, a reluctant smile lifting the corners of his mouth. Ryan was another puzzle he was trying to solve. They’d worked in this office together for almost five years, an instant and seemingly unbreakable friendship forming between them from the moment they’d met.
Lately, however, Ryan’s friendly banter had become almost flirtatious and Colin was more than a little confused and, dare he say, hopeful. He’d always felt more than friendship for him but Ryan had never given him any reason to believe that his feelings were reciprocated. For a start he knew that Ryan liked women, having had many different girlfriends over the years. Maybe he was just reading too much into it; Ryan liked to joke around after all, the proverbial office clown.
“You almost done?” Ryan asked, perching on the edge of the desk and cocking his head to see what was troubling his friend.
Colin breathed in the scent of his aftershave and shivered, suppressing the desire to reach out and touch the hand so close to his. He cleared his throat before speaking. “Yeah, I’ve just got to finish this. Hey, how come you’re always finished before me anyway?”
Ryan grinned and shrugged. “It’s a gift. Are you still coming to the movies with us tonight? I don’t want to be the third wheel with Greg and Jeff; you know what they’re like.”
Colin certainly did know, it’s what he often fantasized doing with Ryan. He pushed that thought away violently; it could only lead to trouble. “I’ll be there,” he smiled. “We can always throw popcorn at them when they’re making out too loudly.”
Ryan let out a bark of laughter, drawing the attention of several other employees, and began to discuss movie choices.
Jeff sat watching them from his desk a few meters away with a contemplative expression. He’d noticed the way that Ryan had begun to look at Colin recently, almost longingly, and was amazed that the older man hadn’t caught on to it, especially considering his own feelings. Colin had confided in Jeff a long time ago and, at the time, Jeff had been forced to agree that it was never going to happen, but something had definitely changed on Ryan’s part. He hadn’t had a girlfriend for over six months.
Jeff was so absorbed in his study of their behaviour that he didn’t hear Greg come up behind him and visibly jumped when a kiss was planted on his cheek.
“Hey gorgeous,” Greg purred, his breath tickling Jeff’s neck.
“Hey.”
Greg noticed that Jeff was distracted and followed his gaze to where Ryan and Colin were still engaged in cheerful conversation. “Should I be jealous?” he smirked.
This finally got Jeff’s full attention and he turned his head to meet Greg’s lips in a kiss. “Trust me, you have nothing to worry about,” he smiled. “Those two need their heads banging together though,” he added, nodding towards their friends with a sigh.
“They have got it pretty bad,” Greg agreed as he watched the pair.
“Hey, whatcha up to or do I not want to know?” an amused voice said behind them.
Jeff and Greg both turned simultaneously. “We’re watching Ryan and Colin,” Greg replied, as if it was the most normal thing in the world. “Care to join us Brad?”
“Okay,” Brad said slowly. “Why are we watching them?”
Greg shrugged. “No idea. Jeff?”
Jeff rolled his eyes at his lover. “I’m trying to come up with a plan of action.”
“For what?” a new voice asked loudly.
“Shhhh,” Jeff said to the newcomer, raising a finger to his lips with a frown.
“It’s a top secret operation Chip,” Greg explained quietly with an expression of utmost seriousness, pointing towards Ryan and Colin.
The four of them stared at the pair intently for a moment, receiving odd looks from their co-workers. “Man, someone has got to get those two together,” Chip smirked, earning an exasperated look from Jeff and a snort of amusement from Greg.
“Yeah,” Brad agreed with a grin, “preferably before the sparks between them cause an unexplained fire. I’d hate to have to deal with that insurance case.”
Jeff ignored the sniggers, a plan forming in his mind. “Okay, I’m gonna need your help Greg,” he said firmly.
“You got it babe.”
Greg, Jeff, and Colin stood outside the movie theatre waiting for Ryan to arrive, their coats drawn tightly around them against the cold.
“Thanks again for the lift guys,” Colin said. “I don’t know what the hell’s wrong with my car.”
“No problem dude,” Greg replied easily. “We don’t want you missing out, do we?”
Colin smiled and looked down the street expectantly, missing the meaningful look which passed between his companions. After another couple of minutes they heard the loud roar of an engine drawing closer and saw a motorbike turn the corner, coming to a stop in front of them. When the rider got off and removed his helmet, Colin’s mouth dropped open in surprise.
“Sorry I’m late guys,” Ryan said, placing his helmet on the bike, “my damn car wouldn’t start.”
“What are the odds?” Greg muttered to Jeff with a grin.
Colin got over his momentary shock at Ryan’s dramatic arrival and hastily closed his mouth. “Looks like it’s catching,” he grinned. “Mine wouldn’t either. You never told me you had a motorbike.”
Ryan grinned as he walked over to them. “She’s my baby. I don’t like to ride in the city if I can help it, I prefer the open road, but needs must,” he shrugged. “Now let’s get out of this wind, you look frozen Col.”
Colin smiled as Ryan dropped an arm around his shoulders and they made their way inside.
Twenty minutes into the movie Ryan was already finding it difficult to concentrate. He was sitting between Greg, who was already playing tonsil hockey with Jeff, and Colin, who was leaning ever so slightly against him, occasionally thrusting his hand into the popcorn which they were sharing. The heat from Colin’s body was seeping through his leathers and he found himself imagining what it would be like to follow Greg and Jeff’s example. The thought sent all his blood rushing to his groin and he fidgeted in his seat slightly, trying to think of something, anything, else.
Colin looked at him questioningly and he tried to give a reassuring smile in return, praying that his natural bodily reaction wasn’t noticeable. Colin seemed satisfied that everything was okay and looked back at the screen, the light flickering across his face. Ryan looked back too, attempting to work out exactly what had happened in the film so far, but found himself repeatedly stealing glances at the man next to him.
Colin was undoubtedly his best friend, despite not having known each other nearly as long as some of his other friends including Greg. A few months ago, however, he’d started wondering if they could be more than that and the thought had opened a dam within him, releasing feelings that he wasn’t even aware he had. He definitely wasn’t gay, he’d enjoyed many women in the past, but his feelings for Colin went far beyond friendship. In fact he’d never felt this strongly about anyone before.
The question was did Colin feel the same? He was almost afraid to find out. He knew that Colin was gay, but that didn’t mean he felt anything more than friendship for him. However, the thought of Colin starting a relationship with another man was like a knife being twisted in his gut.
His thoughts were interrupted by Greg leaning across to talk to both of them quietly. “Jeff’s not feeling too good so I’m gonna take him home. Can you take Colin back on your bike Ryan?”
Ryan had to fight the grin threatening to break out across his face. “Sure, I have a spare helmet. Is that okay with you Col?” Please say yes, please say yes.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” Colin smiled at him. “Tell Jeff I hope he feels better soon Greg.”
“I’m sure he will, thanks Col. See you both tomorrow.”
An hour and a half later, Ryan and Colin emerged from the cinema in high spirits despite the film being fairly dismal. It was nice just to spend some time alone together away from work. Ryan put on his helmet and tossed Colin the spare as he got on the bike, feeling a jolt of excitement at the thought of having Colin riding pillion.
“You know I’ve always wanted a ride on one of these,” Colin smiled, zipping up his jacket and climbing on behind Ryan.
“Well, do you want to go for a spin before I take you home?”
“You bet.”
“Okay,” Ryan shouted, starting the engine, “hold on tight.” He immediately felt Colin’s arms encircle his waist and smiled happily as he pulled away.
They left the city lights behind, heading for the freedom of the open road. Colin held onto him tightly, quickly picking up the knack of leaning into the bends in the road. Ryan always loved taking a ride but having Colin behind him made it perfect, especially when he felt Colin’s head rest comfortably against his shoulder.
Eventually they had to head back though, and it was with a heavy heart that Ryan pulled up at Colin’s apartment and killed the engine. Colin got off and removed his helmet, giving it back to Ryan with a grateful smile.
“Do you wanna come in for a coffee?”
Ryan grinned and waggled his eyebrows. “Is that a pick-up line?”
“No,” Colin laughed, shoving Ryan in the chest playfully. “It’s just coffee, honest.”
Ryan nodded and got off the bike, trying not to show his disappointment. When they reached Colin’s apartment, they found a mysterious box sitting outside the door.
“Maybe it’s a bomb,” Ryan joked, “or the head of a goat sent by an insurance customer.”
Colin chuckled and bent down to pick it up. “Yeah, I’m sure that’s what it is Ry. Hey, it’s addressed to both of us.”
Ryan frowned and leant in to get a closer look. “I’d know that handwriting anywhere. It’s from Greg.”
Colin looked puzzled. “He never said anything.”
“Well, let’s get inside and open it up.”
Colin unlocked the door and flicked the lights on, ushering Ryan in and placing the box on the table. He fetched a knife from the kitchen and opened the box up, peering inside cautiously. Ryan watched as he lifted up a rectangular object.
“Why the hell is Greg sending us a tape?” Ryan asked, looking bewildered. “Does he think we’re secret agents or something?”
“With Greg anything is possible,” Colin replied with a shake of his head, putting the tape into his machine and pressing play. After a few seconds they heard Greg’s familiar drawl.
“Good evening boys. I trust you had a good time without us and enjoyed the ride home. Jeff’s not really sick; it was all part of our master plan. Hopefully this time alone has given you the opportunity to sort some things out. If not, and I say this with love, stop being idiots and admit you have feelings for each other right now because it’s blindingly obvious to everyone but you.”
Jeff’s voice came on next. “We’ve been forced to take matters into our own hands for the sake of our sanity and your happiness so please don’t waste any more time. Oh, and the parts to get your cars back in working order are in the box.”
Realizing there was nothing more on the tape, Colin pressed stop and there was an awkward silence.
“Well, I guess that solves the mysterious car problems,” Ryan said with a forced laugh which sounded alien even to his own ears.
Colin moved to stand in front of him, his expression serious, and Ryan swallowed convulsively, his mouth suddenly very dry.
“Do you Ryan? Do you have feelings for me?”
Ryan realized that he wasn’t ready for that question at all; he couldn’t bear to be rejected. Maybe ignorance was better. “I better get going,” he stammered, avoiding Colin’s intense gaze and heading for the door.
Six words stopped him dead in his tracks.
“I’m in love with you Ry.”
He stood frozen mid-stride with his back to Colin, his brain scrabbling to catch up and his heart hammering in his chest. Distantly, he heard Colin approach him and felt a hand on his arm.
“I need to know if you feel the same way,” Colin said quietly. “Please.”
Ryan turned and looked into Colin’s warm brown eyes, seeing the hope and anxiety mingled within them as he waited for an answer. He raised his large hands to cup Colin’s face gently.
“Actions speak louder than words,” he replied and sealed his lips over Colin’s.
Colin instantly responded, opening his mouth slightly and swiping his tongue across Ryan’s top lip to request access which was readily granted.
Ryan was now quite simply in heaven, amazed by just how right kissing Colin felt. This is what had been missing from all of his previous relationships and it was better than he’d ever dreamed of. The taste of Colin was like a drug to him and he couldn’t get enough, wrapping his arms around him tightly as their tongues fought for dominance. Eventually they had to break apart, both panting.
Ryan rested his forehead against Colin’s, drawing in deep lungfuls of air. “Jesus.”
“I know.”
“I want…” Ryan began and then stopped, looking a little embarrassed.
Colin lifted his head and stroked Ryan’s cheek tenderly. “What do you want Ry?”
Ryan looked into his eyes and found only love and reassurance, giving him the courage to continue. “I want more Col. I want to be inside you. I want to make love to you.”
Colin smiled. “I want that too, more than anything.”
“Will you show me how?”
Colin kissed him and nodded, taking his hand and leading him to the bedroom. They undressed each other slowly, reverently, both wanting to enjoy every moment and not rush it. Once all their clothes had been removed they lay down together and resumed their kiss, their skin to skin contact heightening the pleasure.
Their hands wandered freely over each other’s bodies, familiarising themselves with every curve and contour, finally coming to rest on their straining erections and caressing them gently. Both of them moaned at the touch and smiled into the kiss.
When the pleasure became almost too much, Colin grabbed some lube and told Ryan exactly how to prepare him so it wouldn’t hurt. Ryan listened to his instructions carefully and was soon pushing inside Colin with little resistance, overcome by the incredible sensations. He paused for a moment and leant down to kiss Colin tenderly, needing to tell him what he’d been wanting to express for months.
“I love you Col.”
A beautiful smile lit up Colin’s face as they held each other’s gaze and Ryan could see the love shining in his eyes; at that moment they were joined in body, mind, and spirit.
He could have stayed like that forever, but the need to move was becoming too great and he started gentle thrusts.
Colin wrapped his legs around him and closed his eyes, small gasps and moans escaping through his open mouth. Ryan increased his pace and experimentally adjusted his angle slightly, earning an incoherent cry from Colin as he hit the right spot. The sight of Colin writhing and groaning beneath him drew him almost to the brink and he knew that he wasn’t going to last much longer.
He grabbed hold of Colin’s erection and began to pump it in time with his thrusts, feeling the pressure starting to build in his groin. After less than a minute Colin came over his hand with a cry, his back arching off the bed, and Ryan followed a few seconds later, his eyes rolling to the back of his head as he exploded deep within him.
They collapsed together in a sweaty tangle of limbs, both flushed and breathing heavily.
“Wow, you’re a fast learner,” Colin said with a contented smile, snuggling into Ryan’s side.
“I’ve never had any complaints,” Ryan smirked, dropping a kiss onto Colin’s forehead. “Although that was better than any women I’ve ever had. Why the hell didn’t we do this sooner?”
Colin yawned and shrugged, throwing an arm over Ryan’s chest. “We were both scared of ruining what we had.”
“Well I’m glad Greg and Jeff kicked us up the butts. I honestly couldn’t be any happier than I am right now.”
Colin lifted his head and kissed him gently. “Me neither. Now let’s get some sleep or we’re not gonna get any work done tomorrow.”
Ryan sighed and closed his eyes, hugging Colin closer. He never thought in his wildest dreams that the evening would end like this; he would never be able to thank Greg and Jeff enough.
