OK, this one has no sex (shoot me? Are am I good at it?) but can be a little weepy. Caught myself getting emotional over it, then shook myself remembering this is something I'm writing!
Title: She Can't Have You
Pairing: Ryan/Colin, Greg/Jeff
Rating: R, for language purposes. Who hasn't heard swearing before?
Disclaimer: Don't own 'em, but I now own a cup of milk. Who's milk? You decide :P
She Can't Have You - Part 5
August, 2008
Ryan and Greg were currently standing at the back entrance to the church, smoking their cigarettes, hoping it would calm both their nerves.
"Why I am doing this to myself?" Greg muttered. Ryan turned shocked to look at him.
"Because you love Jeff?"
"I know, I do," Greg rubbed his eyes, trying desperately to clear his head, "But do we really a piece of paper to prove it?"
"No, you don't," Ryan replied, "But you deserve to have the same rights as every married couple in this state."
Both of them stood in silence, both lighting a second cigarette, knowing that they didn't really have the time.
"D'you know what a best man is really for, I think? Stopping the groom from bolting at the wedding."
Greg gave him a nervous chuckle, glad to have one of his closest friends around him. He looked at the tall man, thinking about how much of an influence him and Colin were on his decision. Ryan and Colin showed their love effortlessly, simply by looking at them, you could see that their lives were damn near perfect, simply because they fell asleep in each others arms. So when Greg discovered that he harboured more than platonic feelings for Jeff, one look at Ryan and Colin told him to find out if Jeff returned his feelings. One day, after their second filming of Green Screen, Greg had offered to buy him a beer, and tell him how he felt. Well, really what happened was he had bought a shot for himself, spilt half of it down himself, before blurting out to Jeff that he really liked him. Greg hadn't even managed to tell Jeff that he had hoped that they could remain friends if he didn't feel the same way, before Jeff had pounced on him, kissing him, dragging him up to Greg's hotel room and they had not emerged for forty eight hours. The joke going round the set was that Drew panicked so much about not being able to find them (since they weren't answering the door) that he phoned the police, who broke into Greg's room, only to discover the two of them in a rather interesting position. Since that night, Greg's life had just got better and better, simply because that young gorgeous man had decided to spend his life with him. Looking over at Ryan, he could see that he was shaking ever so slightly. Ryan was always good at hiding his nerves, Greg saw that from his very first appearance on Whose Line.
"What're you shaking for?" Greg asked him.
"Uh, just scared of Col's reaction I think."
"Don't be worried about it. It'll be better for both of you."
"Yeah, I suppose. I'm beginning to see your point here."
"Right, c'mon, I'm getting married!"
Ryan and Greg walked back, both trying to maintain an air of confidence, but inside, both men were beginning to feel butterflies in their stomach. As they walked up the aisle to take their place at the altar, Greg spotted several people in the crowd, smiling and waving at him, sending their love and best wishes for him and Jeff.
Outside, Jeff was having immense troubles keeping his nerves under control. Colin, who was more excited than anything, was constantly reassuring him.
"Colin, do I look OK?"
"You look perfect."
"Oh man, I'm so nervous. What if we walk in and he's not there?"
Colin quickly took a peek inside.
"He's there. Jeff, you've got to do this now."
Jeff took a deep breath, released it, checked his hair one more time and turned to face his best man. "I'm ready."
"OK." Colin nodded to the priest at the altar, who instantly began the song Jeff had chosen to walk up the aisle to, 'Can't Help Falling In Love' by Andrea Bocelli.
"Come here." Jeff muttered to Colin, linking their arms together.
"Isn't this slightly feminine?"
"Shut up. I drew the line at wearing the dress, but I need your support."
"You've got it. Why not Wedding March?"
"Isn't that slightly feminine?"
Colin allowed himself a small grin, before looking up and locking eyes with Ryan. His heart stopped, and he suddenly found it difficult to breathe. He looked beautiful, standing at the altar, and, for a second, Colin imagined that it was his and Ryan's wedding, Ryan waiting for him. He shook his head slightly, and glanced at the young man walking beside him. Jeff's grin almost consumed his face, matched only by the smile on Greg's face, both seeming utterly relieved that they had managed to get to this point. Once they had reached the altar, Jeff turned to Colin, and hugged him.
"Thank you." Jeff whispered, so only Colin could hear him.
"You know I'd do anything for you two. Ryan as well."
They broke apart, and Jeff turned to face his future husband.
"Hi." Jeff said, shyly.
"Hi." Greg replied, the smile never leaving his face.
Behind him, Ryan never took his eyes off Colin. He had not missed the look in Colin's eyes when he looked up, that famed psychic link let him know that Colin was imaging their own wedding. That's where his train of thought stopped however, Ryan couldn't think much past how undeniably sexy Colin looked in his tuxedo and how much he wanted to -
"Ladies and gentleman, we are today to join in civil partnership, Mr Gregory Everett Proops and Mr Jeffrey Bryan Davis."
The wedding continued on as normal as one could. Colin, however, could see a glint in Ryan's eye, one that he had often seen on stage, the one that told him 'I've got a plan.' Colin has learned long ago, not to trust that look.
"If anyone can think of any reason why these two men should not be joined, please speak now."
Ryan gave a slight nod of his head, and Colin found himself going along with his game, to see Greg's reaction if nothing else.
"We object!" They shouted simultaneously.
Greg spun round to face Ryan, Jeff spun round to face Colin, a look of disbelief smacked on both their faces.
"Joke, we're joking." Ryan choked out.
"It's what you get for choosing comedians as your best men." Colin agreed.
A ripple of laughter fell throughout the church, although one look from Jeff and Greg told Colin that he and Ryan were in trouble after the ceremony.
The priest continued on, "Now Jeff and Greg have chosen to say their own vows to each other."
Jeff quickly glanced down to the carpet, as though gathering strength, and looked back up at his soon to be husband.
"Greg, since that night that you told me how you felt, my life has been perfect. I can't imagine a more beautiful morning than waking up in your arms. Everything you do makes me fall even more in love with you, now I can't imagine my life without you, and I don't want to find out what that's like. I feel so lucky to be your husband, and I guess there's nothing more I can say. Words seem to fail me whenever I'm around you. I can only say I love you and hope that's enough."
From where he was standing, Colin could see the beginning of tears forming in Greg's eyes, even in his own. What surprised him was the tears in Ryan's eyes. Ryan never cried. That made his own tears double, and he was struggling to hold them in. As was Greg apparently.
"Jeff, if I told you a million times that I loved you, it still wouldn't be enough to convey how I feel about you. I admit that I took a massive step that night, and hoped against all hope that when I stepped off that edge, that you would catch me. You've done that and more. You've helped me through good and bad, my love for you only increases everyday, and it may be clichéd, but I can't remember how I lived before you. I love you so much."
At this, Jeff burst into tears, but somehow managed to control himself before turning to Colin and holding his hands. Colin took the ring out of his pocket, placed it in Jeff's hand, and put his other hand over Jeff's hands.
"Have fun." He said, imparting his words of wisdom.
Jeff smiled and gave a watery chuckle, before turning back to Greg.
"I love you." He whispered, slipping the ring onto Greg's finger.
Greg smiled and turning to Ryan, who took the ring out of his pocket. As he handed the ring to Greg, he whispered, "You better control yourself better tonight, or I'm not doing it." He gave him a grin, Ryan gave him a wink and he turned back to Jeff.
He slipped the ring onto Jeff's finger, and he looked at Jeff. "I can't say how much I love you right now. There's simply no word for it."
The priest, who quickly wiped a tear away, stood up straight, trying to regain some control over himself. "I now declare you husband and husband. You may kiss your groom."
Greg and Jeff stepped forward, and poured all their love and adoration for each other into their first kiss as a married couple. Hand in hand, they walked back down the aisle, followed by Ryan and Colin, who were also hand in hand. Colin looked up at the man he loved, Ryan looked down, and they shared a quick kiss. Noticing that Colin was crying, Ryan stopped outside the church and cupped his face in his hands.
"You alright?"
"Yeah," Colin brushed off the concern, "I'm just emotional. That was beautiful."
"I know." Ryan smiled, and started kissing his tears away.
"You're such a sap."
"You love me for it."
They stood grinning at each other, until a shout from Greg informed that they had to be at the hotel for the post wedding dinner and drink.
"C'mon, now we get to the fun part of weddings!" Ryan said, running towards the limo rented especially for the four of them, pulling Colin along, both laughing like a couple of children.
