They used to speak to each other without words. Now, they didn't speak even when words were spoken. No one.... not really even they themselves understood how it had come to this.... The sad, incomplete non ending vacuum of what had once been so close, so very Special.  One of the exquisitely rare pairings of two people in friendship at its very best, romance, humor, playfulness, deepest love and physical chemistry.

The years had passed, only making the separation deeper and wider. Both missed it as one would miss one's own arm, or the ability to breathe.  But neither was able to breech the chasm.

One cold and icy November day. A day which would seem like any other to most, two things happened.

An attractive man who had a bit of beautiful white hair and big brown eyes was walking along the ocean he loved and knew so well, when he somehow tripped, hitting his head on a rock and found himself in darkness face down in the salty ocean. At the same moment, very far away, a long limbed man sprawled on a leather couch with a yellow legal pad clutched tightly. There was much pain and his head was spinning. it was difficult to breathe, and his heart felt as if it were breaking within his chest. Then he too was in darkness.

Both men found themselves walking along a stretch of beach alone. The surf was rolling lazily in, a cool fog vied with the sun for possession.  Seabirds cried raucously overhead.

They saw each other at the same time. All pain, loss, and bitterness evaporated as quickly as the fog. Now it was simply the two of them, as they had been. As they truly were.  Running forward to embrace each other, they found anew that words were not required, their devotion had returned full fold. That greatest of gifts, that perfect connection had been re-gifted to them.

They walked the beach, their minds chattering to each other in the silence.... Plans for games needing playing, adventures needing exploration....  And a companionship which needed nothing else, as they would walk together through eternity.
