[FIC] Sometime Around Midnight

Well, this started out as something entirely different. It was going to be a much shorter piece based on the song "Sometime Around Midnight" by Airborne Toxic Event - hence the title. But it took on a life of it's own and steered me in a different direction than I had originally planned. It now bears little resemblence to the song, but I hope it works anyway...

UPDATE: I revised the ending a little. Just the last few sentences. The ending was the hardest part for me, since I changed it from what I originally intended, and after working on it all day yesterday I still wasn't happy with it. I probably should have slept on it and tried again today, because I woke up with the revisions in my head, lol. Anyway, they are very minor, it just made the last scene a tad more open ended. No real need to read it again if you already have - it's still the same in spirit ;)
