Title: Bad Auditions and Good Company

A before they were famous Ryan/Colin friendship drabble...
...be warned it is rather sappy!
“Good god, I need a drink!” Colin said as he let himself into his apartment and slammed the door shut behind him.
“Bad audition?” the voice of his room mate came from the other room. Colin shrugged off his coat before walking into the small kitchen. Ryan Stiles was slouched at the table, two bottles of beer in front of him. He offered one to Colin who accepted with a grateful smile, touched that Ryan was waiting for him.
“I was terrible,” Colin said with a shrug, waving off Ryan's protest before he even got started. “No, seriously, I was total and utter crap. Even I wouldn't have given me the part!”
“C'mon Col, it couldn't have been that bad.” Ryan said, knowing that the man before him had bags of talent and almost no self confidence.
“They tried to make me sing.” Colin said flatly, causing Ryan to almost spit out his mouthful of beer.
“You're auditioning for musicals now?” Ryan asked, trying desperately not to succumb to laughter. “We don't need the rent money that badly.”
“Ha ha,” Colin rolled his eyes at his friend. “I didn't know it was a singing part, obviously.”
“So?” Ryan grinned. “Did you give them a few verses of Oh Canada?”
“Yeah Ry, and then I sang Nessun Dorma and bought down the house.” Colin said before taking a deep drink of his beer, pleased to find that it was nicely chilled.
“So you ran away?” the taller man asked.
“I pretended to faint,” Colin admitted. Ryan chuckled his voice low and deep as he recalled the numerous times the older man had pulled that trick on stage with the TheatreSports league. “Oh it gets worse.”
“How can it possibly get worse?”
“Someone called an ambulance,” Colin ignored his best friends laughter in favour of taking another deep swallow of beer before banging the bottle down on the table. “I think I'm going to need something stronger.” he said. Ryan got to his feet and headed to their sparsely populated drinks cabinet. He knew what it was like to have a bad audition, it was excruciating and embarrassing and a big knock to a performer's confidence. And Colin didn't have enough of that in the first place.
“This calls for getting totally wasted.” Ryan said, holding up the bottle of scotch he had discovered.
“That is the best idea you've ever had.” Colin retrieved two tumblers and held them steady as Ryan poured generous measures of the amber liquid.
“Oh I think I've had one better.” Ryan said and Colin could tell by the warm look on Ryan's face that he was thinking about the day he asked Colin to be his room mate.
“To bad auditions and good company.” Colin said, holding his glass aloft.
"To good company." Ryan clinked Colin's glass with his and the pair drank in companionable silence.
