Chapter One
Fantasy, Ry/Col, Mild Slash

Ryan and Colin were asleep, snuggled tightly together in the center of their king sized bed. They'd been married for several years now and each year was more perfect than the last. Their love and friendship growing more intense and deeper. Whose Line had been successful in the UK, and was even more so here in the US.

Ryan startled awake as an eerie sound entered his ears. It wasn't particularly loud or disruptive, more something along the line of a hummingbird...sobbing, somehow sweetly....

He quietly freed himself from the tangle of arms, legs and blankets which were on the bed. His sharp eyes fastened upon a pale yet effervescent glow in the darkest corner of the room. There was something there. Very soft, pathetic sobbing, like that of a heartbroken small child came from it. "What the hell???"

Colin was sitting up now, roused whether by the crying or by his muttered question. "Ry... what is it.... What's happened?" To which Ryan did not reply, silently motioning his beloved to come explore with him. Clearly he did not feel any sense of danger from it and its obvious need woke some instinct in him which required him to act.

The pair slowly approached the corner. "Easy," Ryan's low calm voice soothed. As they got closer, they knelt so as not to appear so huge to the tiny wounded child thing which lay as if someone had crumpled and tossed away as trash.

She wore only a bloody and soiled cotton dress. Although torn in many places, it may once have been quite pretty. Where not matted with God know what, hair the color of palest gold lay softly on her head. Huge blue eyes stared up at them in fear and a weighty sadness they would later realize was resignation to her fate. Hopelessness if you will. Compassionate tears filled the eyes of both men as they slowly and very gently reach out to her. She closed her eyes and just lay there mutely, an occasional tear running down her small and filthy cheek. They said all manner of soothing sounds to her and their gentle strokes were having a positive affect. They felt her tiny body cease its trembling and slightly relax.

She was so tiny. Perhaps the size of a petite two year old. Her feet and arms were bare, dirty and bruised in many places. Ryan decided it was time to determine the extent of her injuries. Instinctively humming softly, he gently picked her up in his large eloquent hands. A good sign, she kept her eyes open this time, intent upon the soft humming sound he made.

As he gathered her to himself, a small piece of parchment fell from her clothing and as Colin absently set it on the desk, Ryan realized she was shivering. Cold as ice she was. "Get a blanket, Col," he whispered, but smiled sweetly at his love who was there with one at ready. Until he registered the look of round eyed bewilderment which had caused so much audience laughter on Colin's face, and followed his gaze, until both stared in awe and wonder at the tiny gossamer wings folded delicately at her back.
