It was only a couple of days before Colin caved in and went back to Ryan’s window. He hadn’t known whether it was too soon to go back yet, or not. There was also the chance along the way that he let something slip that only Colin knew and not aero, or visa versa, leaving it obvious who he really was, so he didn’t want to make his visits too often.

Ryan wasn’t in the room, but the window was open. After knocking to no avail, he climbed in to make sure no one else saw him.

“Hello?” he tentatively called in his now well practiced ‘Aero’ voice.

“Aero?” he heard a muffled reply float up from downstairs. “Is that you?”

“Yeah,” he shouted back, walking closer to the corridor.

He heard thumping feet travelling up the stairs, before Ryan burst in the room to greet him warmly.

“Hey!”

“You came back!” Ryan grinned.

Colin chuckled. “I said I would, didn’t I?”

“Yeah, but I thought you might be too busy, you know, what with saving the city and holding up a 9-5.” He replied with a fake air of nonchalance.

“I don’t work 9-5, and I do need some time to myself once in a while. As much as I’d love to be saving the city 24/7, I do need to sleep and have a little me time.”

“Oh,” Ryan replied almost guiltily. “I hope I’m not taking up too much of it.”

“No, no!” he quickly reassured, laughing off his concern. “I like coming to see you!”

“So…” Ryan started, breaking the small silence that followed. “Are you a fan of ‘whose line’ or ‘the Drew Carey show’?” he settled into conversation.

“Uhh, kinda. I like them, but I’m not obsessed like the people who call themselves ‘whosers’” he reassured, knowing his dislike of overzealous fans.

“Ha!” Ryan snorted. “It wouldn’t really matter if you were one; after all, you did save my life!”

Colin hummed his agreement. “I prefer whose line though,” he smiled behind his mask. It might have something to do with the fact he sometimes gets to kiss the other man on that show, but still!

“Oh yeah? Who’s your favourite improviser on it?” he asked, obviously fishing for complements.

Colin contemplated his answer. On one hand, he didn’t want to boast, but on the other, he wanted to wipe that smug grin right off his best friend’s face. And to say anyone else, although they were all gifted improvisers, would be a lie.

“Colin,” he answered finally.

Ryan’s draw dropped comically, and he gasped. “How dare you?” he asked feigning offence, making the other man laugh. “I’ll have you know I’m much better than him! All he does is do dinosaur impressions and feints!”

Colin laughed even harder. “Still better than you though!” he teased, earning himself a glare.

“If you didn’t have super powers, I’d so take you down right now!”

“Bring it!” he challenged.

The next thing he knew Colin was being pounced on. He let himself fall back on the bed, to which he was promptly pinned against.

“Ha!” Ryan exclaimed in victory. “Whatcha gunna do now?”

Colin grinned. He wasn’t entirely convinced that he wanted to do anything with Ryan this close. The other man was straddling him, and pinning his wrists firmly above his head. He had, in fact, had a dream recently similar to their current position. Though, he feared he might become aroused if they stayed this way too long.

As quick as a flash, he grew two extra arms from his side and started mercilessly tickling the other man. He rolled to the side, trying to escape the other man’s wandering hands. Colin rolled on top, reversing their previous positions.

Aero laughed at the struggling man underneath him. He held him firmly in place until he finally gave up, panting hard.

Colin leant his head down to rest beside his best friend’s. “That,” he whispered into the shell of his ear, finally answering his question.

Ryan stilled, and Colin could tell that he was now holding his breathe. He pulled back and rolled off him to give him back some space.

He’d got totally caught up in the moment and let his feelings get in the way.

Preying he hadn’t wrecked the growing relationship, he shot a glance at Ryan. He was now sat upright with his arms propping him up, and he was shooting him a questioning look. Colin didn’t know if he wanted to know why he pulled back, or why he had been that close in the first place.

A few moments passed in silence, where they stared at each other, Ryan trying to work him out. Then out of nowhere he snorted with laughter.

“Is that why you don’t have a girlfriend then?” he asked, highly amused.

Phew! So maybe he didn’t mind? He’d certainly dodged a bullet.

He was just asking, in not so many words, if Aero was gay. He considered lying, but reasoned that it may not be so bad to tell him the truth. Besides, Ryan hadn’t even told Colin of Aero’s visit, and he was normally the one he talked to about personal things. What harm could it do? Besides, wasn’t it already obvious? Judging his behaviour, and his hesitation in answering…

“Yeah,” he replied simply.

“Do you have a boyfriend?” Ryan enquired.

“No, I’m single.”

“Oh, ok” he said thoughtfully.

“What about you?”

“No, I don’t have anyone either.”

Aero chuckled. “I know that, I meant are you straight?” Of course he already knew the answer to that too, but he wasn’t supposed to. It would do him good to act like he didn’t know anything, and this being a secret of Ryan’s that not too many people knew about, he was intrigued to find out if he would answer him.

Ryan regarded him thoughtfully, considering his answer. “Not entirely,” he responded, trying to be vague. “But not many people know that about that. I’d prefer if you didn’t mention it to anyone.”

“Of course, I won’t repeat anything you don’t want me to!” he quickly reassured his friend.

“Thanks,” Ryan replied softy.

“So,” Colin began, swiftly changing the subject. “What’s it like working on whose line?”

“Why? You jealous I get to kiss Colin?” he asked, bringing back the teasing nature of their conversation.

“No,” he flirted, unable to help himself. “I’m more jealous of him getting to kiss you.”

It seemed behind a mask, he was much more confident than he ever had been.

Ryan gave him an open mouthed, cocky smile. “Is that so?”

“Yeah,” he replied huskily, grinning.

“It’s great.” Ryan said, confusing him for a second. “Getting paid to mess around with your friends, telling jokes… Best job in the world!” and as soon as that the moment of flirting was gone.

“Sounds fun,” he remarked slyly.

“But I bet your job is even better actually. Getting to save peoples lives everyday. It must be very fulfilling.”

“And tiring.” He added.

“I bet, but it’s worth it?”

“Totally.” He smiled dreamily, picturing all the relieved faces of the relatives and love ones of the people he’d saved, all the gratitude that had been showered upon him, all the kids saying they wanted to be just like him.

“Wanna watch a film?” Ryan asked abruptly.

“Uhh, sure.”

And so they did; they ended up watching Planet of the Apes. It turned out to be quite a good watch, as it had some sci-fi in it, which Colin liked, but wasn’t too over the top or cheesy for Ryan’s taste, or so he presumed.

They sat at opposite ends of the sofa that faced Ryan’s massive plasma screen TV. Though Colin didn’t dare touch him again, fearing Ryan’s patience would wear thin this time.

The movie was seemed to be over far too quickly for his liking, knowing that he had already spent a long time at Ryan’s, and it being quite late, he would probably have to take off after.

As the end credits ascended the screen, he sighed. Ryan got up and busied himself with ejecting the disk, and turning the DVD player off, while Colin stood and got the lights.

“I’d best be off, then.”

“Can’t you stay a while longer?” Ryan pouted.

Colin considered the request. Why not stay 10 more minutes? “OK, then, you twisted my arm.”

Ryan laughed. “It wasn’t very hard to do,” he replied, obviously aware of his eagerness to stay.

Colin sat back down in the same position as before, and waited patiently as Ryan put the DVD back on the shelf. Instead of sitting back down near the other sofa arm, he came and plopped himself down dangerously close to him.

“So,” he began, resting his arm on the back of the sofa, and leaning his face towards Colin. “You got your eye on anyone in particular?”

Colin swallowed. He didn’t know what to say to that, especially with him so close, and with that alluring look plastered on his face. He opened his mouth to talk, but words failed to come out. He cleared his throat and struggled to regain his composure. “K-kinda,” he stuttered lamely.

“Oh,” Ryan replied with a snake like look on his face. “Anyone I know?”

“I-I don’t think-“ he cut himself off. He had that feeling again, and this time it was one of the strong ones. A bank, guns, hostages. “oh!” he gasped.

“What?” Ryan asked slightly panicked.

“There’s a robbery on the high street,” the words came out of his mouth without him knowing before where the bank was. “I have to go.”

“Ok, I understand.” Ryan nodded.

“Sorry,” he apologised, fiddling with his police radio, trying to find out more details.

“It’s fine, go!”

“Bye.”

“Bye.” He heard the answering reply as his ran to Ryan’s back door, flung it open, and rushed into town to help the hostages.
