Summer Challenge: High School Hate
Pairing: Ryan/Colin, dash of Greg/Jeff
Rating: PG-13 for suggestive type things
For: Sungreen
Summary: A/U. If there's one person Colin hates, it's Ryan Stiles. But when he's gotten a chance to actually get to know him, he realizes he isn't that bad. In fact, he's pretty damn good.....
A/N: Yup, t'was me! For Sungreen who wanted some RyCol with a dash of Greffie for the exchange! Hope you liked it!
Colin couldn’t help but throw a glare at the boys occupying the desks towards the back of the class for laughing loud enough that he couldn’t concentrate on the chapter they were supposed to be reading. If that glare focused on a certain tall blonde who appeared to be in the centre of that rambunctious lot, well, it was only because he was generally the cause of the laughter. Ryan Stiles was rumored to be one of the, if not the, funniest people in high school, a title that once belong to Colin’s best friend Greg Proops. Greg didn’t mind being usurped, claiming it made him even more determined to regain his title and if there was something that could be said about Greg, it was that he was more stubborn than a mule.
Of course, that wasn’t the only reason he disliked Ryan. Sometimes, he caught the other boy staring at him with a sort of smile that disturbed him greatly and he knew that he was just doing that to creep him out. Colin couldn’t remember doing anything to piss him off and to think that someone would do that for fun made him realize that Ryan was just like every other boy in class: only interested in what made him better than others and the ‘lesser’ people could go to hell.
“Come on, guys, you know she’s going to be back soon,” another voice sighed. That was Jeffery Davis, also known as Jeff and even better known as Ryan’s protectorate. There had been several rumors that they had had something going on earlier and Ryan’s protective streak only enforced them. Ryan claimed that Jeff was nothing more than a surrogate little brother and Jeff agreed with the story. Many refused to believe them but after watching them interact, it became clear to whoever knew them that they shared purely platonic feelings and that they were fiercely protective of each other.
“Since when have we cared whether she was here or not, Jeffy?” Colin heard Ryan tease Jeff who, as predicted, protested the nickname loudly until the two of them were shouting insults at each other. He groaned as he gave up on whatever chances of studying he had and turned to shout at them to keep it down when the teacher in question entered the class.
“Ryan, Jeffery, what is the meaning of this?!” she hollered, silencing both of them.
“‘This’ normally is an indication towards something-”
“I did not mean it that way, Mr. Stiles!”
“Then I got nothing.”
The teacher rubbed her eyes tiredly, “Mr. Stiles, I assume you know the way?”
“Yup!” Ryan happily shut his book, whispered something to Jeff before darting out of class to, one hoped, the principal’s office. Colin had to shake his head in disbelief, unable to believe that someone could look that cheerful when they had just been thrown out of class for the fifteenth time within the first three months of the new term. He often wondered how Ryan never got expelled but Greg had once informed him that he normally never acted out unless he was in a class he didn’t like. English apparently fell into that category. It was a shame though, because he was quite an attractive person and if it hadn’t been for his obvious disciplinary problems, Colin could very well imagine being friends with him, talking to him, laughing with him, kissing him-
“Colin!”
Colin started as the teacher called out his name and felt himself blush as the other students stared at him. Apparently, he had been deeper into his thoughts than he had thought.
“Are you alright?” she looked as if she was at the end of her tether.
“Yes, ma’am. Sorry,” Colin mumbled. She appeared to accept the apology and continued from where she had left off without missing a beat. Colin felt a tap on his shoulder and, after giving the teacher a careful glance, leaned in towards the would-be speaker.
“Lost in dreams about a certain tall, blonde and handsome?” the smirk was obvious in Greg’s voice.
“As if,” Colin retorted quietly, “You know I hate him.”
“That’s not what your ‘joystick’ is saying,” Greg ticked on eye downwards and Colin flushed as he realized he had developed an erection. He tried to think of every boring baseball statistic he could before realizing that he had never followed baseball in his life. The bell was about to ring and he couldn’t stand up like this! Not if he wanted to survive his remaining years in high school.
“It’s not going down!” Colin hissed, on the verge of panic.
Greg looked around the class before focusing on their teacher, “Her in a thong.”
“Ew,” apparently the ‘little man’ shared his disgust because his erection wilted within seconds. Letting out a sigh of relief, he focused on the previous thread of the conversation they had been having, “What were you saying?”
“I don’t see why you don’t just ask him out. He’s hot, funny and, from what I’ve seen in gym, he’s packs a mean package too.”
“Number one, I hate him. Number two, I hate him. Number three, guess what?”
“You hate him?”
“And we have a winner.”
“Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why do you hate him?”
Colin opened his mouth to give the same response he always did, but Greg was saved from hearing about it by the ringing of the bell. Colin immediately jumped up to gather his books for a dash to the other side of the campus for his Science Club meeting. Why any fool thought that they’d be able to make it in time for a meeting when they had to run a five-minute distance in one minute apparently owned a teleportation device. He saw Greg mosey up to Jeff and wrinkled his nose as the latter greeted him with a kiss. He had no doubt that Jeff would have never even thought of attempting that while Ryan was around, more for Greg’s sake than his own. According to Greg, Ryan once threatened him with severe bodily harm if he even thought about hurting his little brother and Greg wanted to keep his body intact, thank you very much. Plus, Jeff found it strange and claimed it was like kissing your boyfriend in front of your not-yet-approving parents.
Colin shoved his way out of class and moved as fast as he could without getting into trouble. Fortunately for him, the crowd in the halls lessened as the students entered their classes until he was the only one there. Glancing at his watch, he didn’t see the other figure in front of him until he ran right into him, knocking himself on his ass and the other figure against the wall hard enough to knock the wind out of him.
Colin opened his mouth, whether to apologize or ask if he was hurt, but shut it quickly when he recognized the person he had collided into. Ryan waved at him from his spot on the floor against the wall as he tried to remind himself how to breathe again and Colin’s rising irritation was swept away with a wave of concern as he knelt down next to the taller boy.
“I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” he asked, wondering if he should get the nurse or even an ambulance.
“Fine. Wind....knocked out.....” Ryan got out, taking a few deep breaths until he was breathing more or less normally, “Wow, you ever thought of joining the football team? We’d never lose!”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Colin responded wryly, inwardly appreciating the compliment. Normally, all he heard were smart-ass comments about his pasty skin or his shy nature.
“You really should,” Ryan got to his feet with Colin’s help, “Thanks.”
“It’s nothing. I really should have been watching where I was going.”
“Judging by your speed and angle, I’m guessing you were rushing for something you were late for?”
“Yes, I- shit! My meeting!” Colin yelped but when he saw the time, he had to give up the endeavor; there was no way the club leader would let him in now. He’d just have to get the notes and work from one of the other members.
“Science club?” Ryan questioned. Colin armed himself with a witty retort for whatever degrading remark was about to be tossed at him when Ryan said something that threw him for a loop, “Of course you are, you’re really smart, after all.”
“Uh, wha?” that was unexpected. Ryan was known to tease the other members in the club and the last thing he had expected was to be complimented by the same person.
“I said you must be really smart. I know I tend to piss off the other guys, but that’s just because they don’t realize what intelligence really is,” Ryan frowned slightly, “I mean, memorizing something any idiot can look up in a book is just parroting.”
“And what makes you think I don’t do the same?”
“I saw your history project on the Ancient Roman Empire. You actually researched and when I saw you in the library, you really seemed to be enjoying yourself. I was looking for a comic book,” Ryan clarified as Colin raised an eyebrow as if to say ‘You? A library? Bitch, please.’
“The club isn’t that bad,” Colin defended, but it was half-hearted. Everything Ryan had said had been his own view from the moment he had joined the club. They tended to only follow the text book and didn’t even have field trips. The only reason he was even in it was because his mother had forced him into it.
“But Drama Club isn’t like that,” Ryan continued, “we’re more of the practical sort. We’ve actually got a practice session now, would you like to watch?”
“Uh....” Colin found it odd that barely ten minutes ago he had been cursing the boy in front of him whereas now he was about to watch a drama session with him.
“Great! Come on,” Ryan took his hesitance as an answer and grabbed his hand, dragging him towards the auditorium. Colin flushed lightly at the feel of those long, graceful fingers curled around his and felt himself involuntarily squeeze them back. That was the beginning of the best two hours of his life.

“That was amazing!” Colin repeated for the tenth time as he waited for Ryan to finish clearing the stage. They were the only ones left as the others left after assigning Ryan clean-up duty and Colin couldn’t help but rave about the fun he had had today. Ryan had gotten him up on stage, despite loud protests, for what they called an improv game and he couldn’t believe the applause he had gotten. Lots of people complimented his quick thinking, but what made him feel happiest, surprisingly, was Ryan’s proud look from the wings.
“I told you that you were a natural,” Ryan chuckled, climbing up the ladder leading up to the costume room. The ladder rattled threateningly and Colin automatically grabbed it to steady it, not breaking his conversation with Ryan for a moment.
“I’ve never felt like that before! What a rush! I can see why you do that so often!”
“I know what you mean. There’s nothing like making people laugh to bring up your mood.”
“Do you think I could do it again?”
“Why not? I’m the head of the Drama Club and I think you could do well in it,” Ryan peered at him, “do you want to join?”
“You’re the head?” Colin’s eyebrows rose in surprise.
“Yup. Do you want to join?”
“I would like to....do you really think I’m good?”
“Col,” Colin looked up at the abbreviation at Ryan poking his head through the costume trapdoor, his eyes filled with support, “you were easily the best I’ve ever seen since I joined the club and that’s saying something because most of those guys have been doing improv for years. You were great.”
“Thanks,” Colin said sincerely, smiling at the other boy. Ryan smiled back and disappeared up again, finishing whatever he had been doing and the Colin felt more than heard the footsteps on the rungs of the ladder as he descended. Colin moved to steady the ladder again when he heard Ryan gasp as his foot slipped on one of the rungs and his hands automatically rose up to grasp onto a thin waist, preventing him from falling.
Colin felt the warm life beneath his hands and he could hear Ryan’s breathing accelerate as he descended the last stair. He waited for his hands to fall away, but they seemed to be functioning separately from his brain as they instead pulled the other boy closer to him until he felt a warm back against his chest. Ryan didn’t protest the move but he didn’t respond to it either, his arms remaining loose at his sides, but Colin heard a sharp intake of breath as his hands shifted forward to wrap around his waist entirely.
“Colin?” Ryan voice was quiet and tentative. Colin didn’t respond but took a deep whiff of Ryan’s scent, a lovely mix of grass and cologne. Ryan seemed to be awaiting some sort of sign and Colin gave it to him in the form of a kiss to the back of his shoulder. Ryan turned around in his arms and the next thing Colin knew, there were a pair of soft warm lips pressed against his and a very talented tongue introducing itself to him.
“Jesus....” Colin groaned into Ryan’s mouth as the other boy turned them and pressed him against the ladder, his lips descending down his throat. His hands slipped around to grab onto that sexy ass and pull him even closer to him, feeling their erections grind into each other. Ryan groaned and placed one foot on the rungs he was leaning against, causing them to press together even harder and Colin could see stars behind his eyelids.
“I thought you hated me,” Ryan mumbled in between kisses with a gentle tone of teasing.
“I hated that you were too good for me,” Colin responded, thrusting his tongue into Ryan’s mouth, one hand trailing up his thigh.
“Too good?” Ryan frowned in confusion and pulled back, though Colin soft protest made him want to kiss him again, “what do you mean?”
“Have you seen yourself?” Colin raised an eyebrow, “you’re funny, popular, carefree and drop dead gorgeous. I wished I could be like you instead of the grade-grind podgy person I am who cares too much of what others think of me.”
“I look like a scarecrow, I’m careless, always in trouble and everyone thinks I’m stupid,” Ryan rolled his eyes with a fond smile, “I always wished I could be you.”
“Really?” Colin couldn’t believe that. After envying the person in front of him for years, he had kissed him and heard his confession in less than an hour. Inspite of all that, all he could think about now was the hot body pressed against him and the feel of Ryan’s heartbeat against his chest.
“But now I think I’d rather be with you,” Ryan growled, arching his body against Colin’s in a way that had the other man moaning loudly.
“Me too,” Colin shuddered as Ryan’s hand slipped down to caress the bulge in his pants. He arched against the hand a couple of times before Ryan pulled it back, “What?”
“We’re getting a little too carried away,” Ryan looked quite sheepish as he pulled back from Colin and straightened his shirt. His eyes widened at the hurt look on Colin’s face, “I didn’t mean it like that!”
“Then what did you mean it as?” Colin asked, folding his arms.
“Col, we’ve only been speaking to each other for three hours,” Ryan pointed out, “I....well, I want to take it slow, you know? And sex is not taking it slow.”
“Then what do you want to do?”
“I wanna take you out on a date....maybe we can go for a movie or a walk in the park, ya know? Just....I want this to grow naturally.”
Colin felt a huge smile spread across his face as Ryan Stiles, the poster boy of confidence and sexuality, blushed and fumbled with his words as he tried to not sound like a cheesy romance movie. He chuckled and cupped Ryan’s face in his hands, brushing their lips together and feeling Ryan’s answering smile.
“Slow’s good. We’ll take it slow,” Colin murmured, hugging him.
“Good....” Ryan returned the hug whole-heartedly and suddenly, they heard a thumping sound come from the area of the dressing rooms and pulled apart, afraid they had been caught. They didn’t have to worry as the thumping became louder and then two passionate cries tore through the silence of the auditorium. They stared at each other before both of them followed the noise to one of the more unused dressing rooms where the rhythmatic thumping and increasing groans suggested that whoever was in there were very close to finishing up.
“Sex in the dressing room?” Colin said in a low whisper.
“In the future,” Ryan winked back at him, “Seriously, who in the world would have sex in one of these? Couldn’t they wait to get home?”
“Sometimes people are just horny beasts,” Colin smiled, wrapping one arm around his waist and drawing him closer, “Like you.”
“You make me that way,” Ryan drawled, leaning down for another passionate kiss when two loud screams emitted from the closed dressing room.
“JEFF!”
“GREG!”
Colin was still laughing an hour later as he watched Greg try to dodge an enraged Ryan chasing him through the auditorium as an embarrassed Jeff tried to break them apart before Ryan made good on his threat to neuter his boyfriend.
