Author’s notes: This may look a little strange, but some of you have had difficulty translating the code we used. Snippets of the chapter have been left to help you find your place.

Parts 1 - 4  (The latter parts of chapter 4 are translated openly by Greg)

Chapter 1

…Greg lowered his paper to see what the hell Jeff was talking about and saw the young man pointing to a piece of purple paper lying under the coffee table. It had some kind of strange writing on it. Odd, mixed up fonts, uncentered and just…weird looking.

Greg picked it up and frowned at it. Jeff, curious, joined him on the couch. Both of them squinted at the paper.

Weil meat

twos daisy

ate third

Eeyore nein

(We’ll meet…Tuesday…Eight thirty…or nine)

“What the fuck is that supposed to be?”  Greg snarked. “Some freaking shopping list?”

Jeff  re-read the note, a puzzled frown on his handsome face, and scratched his head. “I have no earthly idea.”

Part 2

1990

Colin lined up the three independently indecipherable pieces of paper that had come in three different letters. A whole damn week they had all taken to get to him, and now, as he was just about to finish packing for the trip to
England, he joined the pieces and read the words meant only for him.

Call in eye emmy sew prow duff ewe
can twat two sea ewe elgin
ay no ay half knot al waste

pin dairy lie que won’t meat

eew bee butt

eye alum doing awl eye kin

two kelp gusto gather
Eye tank elvin tap yo arm eine

(Colin, I am so proud of you…Can’t wait to see you again…I know I have not always …been there like you want…me to be, but…I am doing all I can to keep us together…I thank Heaven that you are mine…I miss you more than you could ever know.)

Colin smiled at the seemingly jumbled array of letters on the pages and stepped back toward his closet to grab another handful of sweaters to cram into his luggage atop a certain cigar box.

The only sound in the room was a clock ticking away in the corner as the three men contemplated. These were obviously no random pieces of effluvia.

Placed together, the mysterious missive continued;

Meat mei dairy

Wheel dew eat

ana danna qwack

money moan.

(Meet me there…We’ll do it…and then a quick….honeymoon)

“Money moan?” Jeff was still scratching his head.

Greg frowned at the two slips of paper, a creeping thought in his head muttering something about this looking just an eensy bit familiar…

Part 3

Note from Colin to Ryan, 1993

Wheat rare acre ost hey oh seen a whay front

(I wish you would tell me…why we could not get an apartment together…We are across the ocean, away from…all the people we were afraid of offending…I love you and I want to be with you…Please tell me you want to be with me. I have waited so long…I love you.)

Carelessly (by Ryan’s standards anyway), Colin had sent off the three letters in the three separate envelopes at the same time. He was so tired of all this playing around that it was beginning to wear on his nerves….

“Uh, guys? Wardrobe gave me this. They found it in Colin’s pocket and thought it might be important--” He was stunned into silence as Drew snatched it from his hand.

The top edge did not fit with the bottom of Drew’s. There was obviously something missing…

Sew aisle sea

1997

Eye herd etz awl oh fur. Day are can selling dei shoe.
Wee wheel nay fur sea itch udder ay gain

(I heard it’s all over. They are canceling the show…We will never see each other again…)

Ryan was distraught at reading Colin’s words. He made a silent vow that he would do everything within his power to keep Colin in his life, even if it meant badgering his new boss to the point that he would be fired from his new job…

1998

Breaking through the audition to The Drew Carey Show wasn’t that hard. Well, maybe it was, with 500 hopefuls behind him, but Ryan had gotten it easily enough….

Call ay toll dew nut two worldly
druids a guild cry
yo half knot ting two worldly a boot
Ai loft shoe

(Col, I told you not to worry…Drew is a good guy…You have nothing to worry about…I love you…Everything’s gonna be all right)

Part 4

 2003

The words easily flew from his head to his hand and converted into the code without him even having to think about it. He wrote swiftly and easily, pouring his heart out onto the page. When he finished, he just stared at it, gasping for air, realizing what the words ultimately meant and not regretting them one bit.

Rye ewe end eye half bean doing dees

(Ry, you and I have been doing this…for damn near twenty years…I can’t keep it up any more. It hurts…Deb found my cigar box…She asked me what this was and…I said it was a game…She didn’t believe me…I can’t blame her…I love you now as I have always loved you. I need you in my life.

I am asking you now…now that we are old…and we have done all that we can…(for) you to follow me down this road…to a place where we will…never have to hide any more.

 Marry Me.)

Quickly, he ripped the letter to bits and stuffed the pieces into five different envelopes.

Well, there ya go, Peeps. I realize that there may be a little cutting and pasting involved, but I hope that helps to clear it up a bit. Exciting conclusion to follow!
