You Forget Your Place (Chapter Two) - Chapter story
Title - You Forget Your Place (2/?)
Author - Beccie
Pairings - Mainly Greg/Josie, Josie/Ryan & Chip/Jeff (will also be minor Brad/Josie, Caroline/Paul, Chip/OFC & maybe very minor Caroline/Sandi for a bit of fun...=P)
Rating - Starts as an R but will probs turn into NC-17 for swearing, sexuality, character death and adult themes (all that fun stuff!)
Summary - 16th century Britain. Theatre is a man's world. So in enters a woman from the slums whose aim is to change everything...
Note: Based on research for my drama exam notes. This should be fun!
“Josie, are you completely mad?” That was the remark of her best friend Caroline after voicing her plan. She would ‘borrow’ some of Ryan’s clothes and disguise herself as a man. Then she would go to the audition and wow the leader of the troupe into letting her in. Almost obviously, her friends had rejected the idea right away. “No Caroline. I think this could work. I mean if I squeeze everything into a corset then no-one would ever have to know.” Caroline shook her head.
“Josie sweetheart, you are Ryan’s lover. He probably talks about you all the time. The leader of the troupe could probably draw your body just from descriptions. They would not fall for it.” Sandi nodded along. “She is right young Josie. Besides, a corset would draw in your hips so you would look even more womanly.” Josie sighed and put her head in her hands. “Well, it was worth a go.” Sandi and Caroline looked at each other before walking over to their best friend and each placing an arm over her bare shoulders.
“We’re sorry dear. We don’t mean to do this too you. It’s just...it’s not a woman’s place.” Sandi reasoned before placing a kiss on her best friend’s cheek. Josie nodded and felt her mood darken. The times were so cruel and women were lowered to professions like sleeping with men for money just because the arts were ‘too taboo’. It made Josie question the double standards of society. How could women sleep with men as a career and yet face punishment if they so much as set foot on a stage and started to perform?
“Josie, you know we would support you through anything. But this...if you are found out then you could be executed. Just because Henry’s dead doesn’t mean Lizzy is a kinder soul.” Josie just nodded, feeling saddened by their words. She was passionate about this but could see the reasoning behind her friends’ judgements. They were only looking out for her. Caroline took her arm away from Josie’s shoulder and stood up. “I’m just going to use the pail.” With that, she left the room leaving Josie and Sandi alone.
Sandi then whispered to Josie, “Josie, what do you want?” Josie was confused by her friend’s manner. Sandi was always the sly one but answered anyway. “I want to act.” Sandi nodded and turned her friend’s chin to look at her. “Then do it Josie. I know Caroline is only looking out for you but if you really want this...you would be a fool to give this up Josie.” Josie’s face immediately brightened up and she pulled her friend into a tight hug. “You must help me Sandi. Help me look like a man and win this audition.” Just then, a shadow filled the room.
“Sandi...please tell me you didn’t.” Caroline was stood in the doorway, hands on hips. Sandi shrunk even further into the room. “It’s her dream Caroline. She doesn’t want to whore for the rest of her life and I am going to help her.” Caroline looked between the pair and sighed, angered but understanding. “Ok. But I am warning you Josie, you get caught and I didn’t encourage you. I was opposed to this all along. You understand me?” Josie nodded at Caroline and stood up, bringing her into a tight hug. “You have my word Caroline.” She pulled away from the hug and clapped. “Ok girls. Now I just need to like dashing and handsome. Any ideas of how to do that.” Both Sandi and Caroline pondered for a moment before Caroline snapped her fingers. “Paul will help you. He owes me a favour and he will keep it a secret. Now lets go.” With that, all three girls linked arms and ran out of the building towards Paul the cobblers shop. Josie laughed the whole way, excited by the fact that her dreams were coming true; thanks to the two best friends an Elizabethan girl could ask for.

Sorry, this chapter is pretty short and more of a filler than anything. I would post the next chapter too but the next one is pretty long so it will have to wait. =P Oh plus, an apology but the next update may not be until Saturday afternoon. Tomorrow I have an award ceremony at school and Friday I am out with a mate and I want to write a few more chapters before posting next. So yeah, that's my explanation! Hope you enjoy this chapter and let me know! You guys have been amazing with comments so far and I am so grateful! =D
