[FIC] Spat
My mind works in strange ways sometimes. On the Whose Line ep on ABC Family last night, I got intrigued by a little exchange between Colin and Ryan. They were the "winners", and when Drew announced this Ryan turned to Colin with his arms out to give him a hug. And Colin stuck his hand out for a handshake. So I got to wondering, and decided this must have been what REALLY went on when the cameras and mikes weren't picking them up...
Title: Spat
Author: Sun Green
Pairing: Ry/Col (implied)
Rating: G
“Collll…” Ryan hissed under his breath at the balding man who stood on the other side of Drew Carey.
Colin petulantly avoided his gaze.
“Back in five!” the director called. “Four, three, two - ”
“Hey, welcome back to Whose Line Is It Anyway,” Drew boomed. Behind his back, Ryan glanced at Colin. He was smiling his on-camera smile, still pointedly not looking at Ryan. Despite his frustration, Ryan had to bite back a grin. He had to admit, Colin was cute when he was mad.
Drew continued. “The winners of tonight’s show are Colin and Ryan. Hey, how ‘bout it?”
The audience erupted in applause. Deliberately, Ryan moved towards Colin, arms outstretched in a show of giving him a congratulatory hug. Seeing him, Colin stubbornly thrust out his hand for Ryan to shake. Ignoring it, Ryan wrapped his arms around him. Faced with the option of returning the hug or pushing him away and making a scene, Colin encircled Ryan with his arms, perfunctorily patting his back.
“I’m sorry,” Ryan whispered into Colin’s ear.
Stepping back, Colin turned his gaze to the audience, the on-camera smile still on his face. He didn’t react to the apology at all.
Drew announced the next game, Stand, Sit and Bend, and the three of them began acting out their scene. As often happened with this particular game, chaos ensued as they each tried to remember to stand, sit, or bend, according to which positions the others took. Soon all three were fighting back laughter, particularly when Ryan and Colin both tried to sit on the same stool at once, and Ryan ended up sitting on Colin’s hand. Quite by accident, Colin’s eyes met Ryan’s. Forgetting himself, he smiled, then looked away quickly.
The taping was finally over, and the cast remained on stage giving handshakes and hugs as the credits rolled. Ryan made his way to Colin’s side and spoke to him in a low voice that the others couldn’t hear.
“I mean it,” he said softly. “I’m really sorry.”
Colin looked back at him. He was trying to maintain his sulk, but he was softening. The hint of a smile played around his lips.
“Prove it,” he replied.
Ryan grinned. They were okay. He leaned in closer, murmuring into Colin’s ear.
“I will. My trailer, ten minutes. Bring the chocolate body butter.”
