Here we are! The last of this seemingly unending gauntlet of fear. Now I know I write some really horrible things, but you have to know that no matter how horrible it is in the beginning, it'll always get better. Thank you all for sitting with this through the end! Especially My Lady! You know who you are!

Chapter 13: Here Comes the Sun

Years Later, the Mochrie household, Vancouver, Canada

“Who was it?”

“Another reporter asking for an interview.”

Ryan sighed heavily as his lover sat back down next to him and curled back into the crook of his arm, “Those damn bastards, worse than vultures.”

“Hey!” Izzy said, mock hurt on her face as she looked over.

“Sorry,” Ryan said apologetically, ducking his head in mild embarrassment.

“It’s okay, they are,” she admitted. Drew shifted, rearranging his headrest upon her breasts. She giggled. “Those are attached you know,” she said mildly. He merely grinned before pulling her head down to his lips, reveling once more in her taste and feel.

Abe finally noticed where the sounds were coming from and threw popcorn over at them. “Cut it out you two, that’s gross.”

“What are you, in tenth grade?” she asked sarcastically, smiling nonetheless.

Ryan chuckled then glanced down at Colin. He was shifting in discomfort. “It still hurts?”

“Every now and then,” Colin admitted, rubbing his shoulder. Ryan wrapped his arm around the smaller man’s shoulders even tighter and rubbed his lips against his brow. They were silent for a while, each remembering past horrors.

It had turned out better than anybody had guessed it would. Pearl had committed suicide. Colin, Izzy and Drew had all made it to the hospital before any permanent damage, cranial or otherwise, had been inflicted. There had been a lot of physical therapy afterwards, and many, many tears, but it only served to cement their bonds.

After they’d been released, a memorial was held for the men they’d lost. It had been well publicized, being called the singularly most horrific set of murders in Hollywood since the Manson Murders, rivaling even the Black Dahlia itself.

Jeff had attended as well, in his wheelchair and not medicated for the first time in a month. The doctor had said he was showing improvement.

He hadn’t looked at anyone except Abe, who had curiously stayed by his side throughout the whole thing. No one said anything when Abe had reached for his hand, and no one had said anything when Jeff had gently taken it, but the air around them had changed. For the better, they didn’t know, but their hope was getting stronger every day.

The entire left side of Drew’s face had been smashed, but thanks to several reconstructive surgeries, he could wear his glasses without a brace. Izzy quit her job as a reporter to write full time. Her book on the murders is set to come out sometime next year, and is already being hailed as the finest of its kind.

Ryan and Colin disappeared for a while, hiding under the radar of the public eyes to all save for Drew and Izzy, resurfacing in Canada, speaking out against hate crimes and lobbied ferociously for rights for gays and lesbians in Canada and in the US. Their lobby won the rights for civil ceremonies to be recognized.

Drew and Izzy’s wedding date was set for August 10th, where Ryan and Colin would also have their civil ceremony.

And, strangely, as Pearl wished, they didn’t fade; they grew in popularity, for themselves, and for each other.

But popularity… well, I don’t have to tell you they didn’t give a damn about that.

FIN.
