Word Count: 1,120
Rating: Only a PG-13, some swearing

It took all of Josie’s strength to lead Greg away from the funfair attached to the market, threatening to beat him with his own toffee apple if he didn’t behave himself. He dithered behind her, as they pressed on, looking innocent every time she glanced back at him.
“Greg… stop it... we can’t!” Josie’s soft giggle combined a mixture of embarrassment and amusement as she tugged on the American’s hand. Greg smirked back at his friend, flecks of light dancing playfully in his brown eyes as though each contained it’s very own flickering candle.
“Stop being so English Josie.” He said simply, clearly, as amused as she was.
“We’re too old to go trick or treating in the centre of London,” she scolded good-naturedly, tucking her curls behind her ears. Sure, they were both dressed in costumes, Greg had fashioned himself a fairly decent zombie costume from the limited items of clothing he had with him on his stay in England. Josie was dressed from head to foot in black, tail trailing behind her, cat ears perched on her head and whiskers drawn on. “You are so embarrassing!”
Greg had made his way up the pathway leading to the house, Josie unwittingly in tow as she attempted to steer him away from humiliation. Trick or treating hadn’t been part of the plan. They were on their way to Richard’s Halloween party, or so Josie had thought. The lure of candy and embarrassing Josie seemed too much for Greg to resist, however.
“I’m a guest here Josie. I want to experience all aspects of English life, including what it’s like to go trick or treating here,” he grinned, knocking loudly on the wooden door, laughing as Josie hid from view, head in her hands.
“Yes?” A gruff, middle-aged Londoner had opened the door, grey eyebrows knitted into a frown, clearly fed up with the crowds of kids trampling unintentionally on his dahlias on the way to his front door.
“Trick or treat!” Greg’s chipper voice had barely finished singing the phrase at the surly man before he replied with “oh bugger off” door slamming behind him as he wandered into the depths of his house, muttering darkly about lunatics and foreigners.
“Well there you have it…” Josie fought to keep her face straight as Greg pouted. “A typical example of what it’s like for a grown up to go trick or treating in London. Kids are lucky to get sweets,” she giggled, pushing her slender hand into his larger one.
“But its harmless fun and candy makes kids… oh.” Greg laughs making a mental note to use a similar observation to this in his stand up. “Of course, we’re in England. Happiness is dangerous and must only be distributed by the proper authorities. Too much positivity on this dinky island would lead to death and destruction right?” Josie smirked, thumping his arm softly.
“Who told you our downfall?”
“Just a wild guess pumpkin…”

“Josie… can I at least stop and get a toffee apple?” Greg whined, eyeing up the outdoor Halloween market longingly. Smells of hot dogs, popcorn and melted toffee intermingled into a mouth-watering combination, igniting every desire for greasy junk food within a person.
“We’re nearly at Richard’s house Greg… you’re worse than a child!” Josie shook her head, secretly enjoying the walk, despite the bitter, autumn nip in the air. After all, Greg had her laughing every few minutes, so it was impossible to truly feel the cold.
“I know. I’m a needy, whiny piece of fuck. Who wants candy real bad,” Josie rolled her eyes, feeling a surge of affection towards her friend.
“Will you shut up if I buy you a toffee apple?” She asked doubtfully, wondering if he knew how to go without talking for more than a few minutes at a time.
“Maybe, I’m mesmerised by my own voice though,” he reminded her seriously, glancing down at the pretty woman at his side.
“I’m glad you pointed that out. I hadn’t noticed,” she replied dryly.

It took all of Josie’s strength to lead Greg away from the funfair attached to the market, threatening to beat him with his own toffee apple if he didn’t behave himself. He dithered behind her, as they pressed on, looking innocent every time she glanced back at him.
“What are you doing Gregory Proops? I don’t trust you.” She frowned, halting in her tracks, folding her arms.
“Nothing…” he insisted, tone of guilt evident in his voice. Slowly turning back around, Josie had only taken a few more steps when a pile of soggy leaves hit the back of her head, making her squeak and laugh in shock.
“Right. That’s it Proops!” She growled playfully, running for him, scooping up a handful of leaves as she went, chasing him down, all thoughts of Richard’s party vanishing momentarily from her mind.
Chuckling cut through the cold air, Greg’s cute snorts and Josie’s loud belly laughs, the friends wrestling and tickling each other when leaves no longer had the desired effect.
“Truce” Josie squealed, through her amusement, clutching a stich in her side, gazing up at Greg as he pinned her to the cold, frosty ground. “Why are we lying on the floor?”
“I have no idea pumpkin.”
“You call me kitten every other day, then I finally dress as a kitten and you call me pumpkin.” Josie grinned. “Any chance we can go to Richard’s party now?”
“Can I request one more Halloween treat? No more tricks I promise.”
“Fine. One more.”
His lips met hers, the taste of sugary toffee still coating his mouth. After the initial shock of her friend kissing her had passed, Josie settled into it, cupping his cheeks as though she’d wanted this all along. Soft, warm lips caressing her own, making her heart flutter as though it was being carried on a cloud of bats. Small jolts of electricity emanated from the point of contact, spreading through every inch of her body, shocking her awake. Now she knew how Frankenstein’s monster must have felt. Dazed and confused, she couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across her face.
“Greg… what…?” She mumbled, head resting on his, eyes slowly opening to look past his thick lenses into dark chocolate eyes.
“I’ve wanted to do that since I arrived,” he admits. “Why do you think I asked you to come with me tonight?” She smiled brightly at these words, delighted by his confession.
“Because you wanted to embarrass me, by taking me trick or treating,” she laughs, letting him pull her carefully to her feet. “Now let’s get going before all the alcohol goes…” she insisted, wiping leaves from her backside, hitting him playfully with her tail for no real reason at all.
The howling wind surrounded them, chilling them through their now damp costumes. The silvery moon lit their path with an eerie yet beautiful glow. Josie was sure there were many more thrills left to come that evening.

“You call me kitten every other day, then I finally dress as a kitten and you call me pumpkin.” ---- xD Oh, Josie. I love you.
I simply love the way you described the kiss, sweetie. It was AMAZING. And the part where it says "Small jolts of electricity emanated from the point of contact, spreading through every inch of her body, shocking her awake. Now she knew how Frankenstein’s monster must have felt." made me grin like an idiot.
Great job, sweetie. I loved this! Thank you so much, and Happy Halloween! <3
